Famous people who you might not have known belong to banking families:
Edited on Sat May-24-08 11:14 PM by Hannah Bell
1. Sam Walton:

The popular story goes that Sam was a good old boy who worked his way to the top. In fact, he got his start by marrying a millionaire's daughter, who loaned him the money to buy his first store & helped out along the way. Leland Stanford Robson was his father-in-law; he was a banker & a lawyer for bankers, as well as a rancher & real estate magnate. Sam's own father was a mortgage broker turned farmer, & Sam had the wherewithall to get an economics degree during the Depression, worked for DuPont after he graduated, and was a captain in army intelligence during WW2, supervising internment camps, among other duties. Mr. Walton was to meet many more bankers as his career progressed, and today, the Walton Family is itself in the banking biz.

2. Charles a. Lindbergh:

Another supposed "little man" who rose from obscurity to become "Lucky Lindy," hero. In fact, his grandfather was August Lindbergh, who started life as Ola Mansson of Sweden, a bank officer & member of the Swedish Riksdag, also Secretary to King Oscar I of Sweden & Norway. When he was accused of embezzlement & bribery he emigrated to the US, & was wealthy enough to send several of his sons to college in Sweden. His son Charles became a banking lawyer & one of the original shareholders & board members of First National Bank. Lucky Lindy attended Sidwell Friends (Chelsea Clinton's alma mater), among other prestigious schools, & married the daughter of a JP Morgan partner. The political & economic undertones of the Lindbergh history make one wonder about his son's kidnapping...

3. Bill Gates, Jr:

The Microsoft magnate's maternal great grandfather founded National City Bank of Seattle & his grandfather was a banker there too. This is possibly where Gates pere got the connections to become one of the first Seattle law firms with a DC presence, though his ancestry includes prominent old new england names. Though I've not been able to find conclusive documentation, "National City" banks seem to often have been associated with Rockefeller interests. At any rate, here's Gates' great-grandpa's entry in "One Thousand American Men of Mark Today" 1916: James Willard Maxwell:

http://books.google.com/books?id=O-QDAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA134&lpg=PA134&dq=%22national+city+bank%22+maxwell+seattle&source=web&ots=UPbQFweZWM&sig=Fxr4K7215pe_ww0FDabFrqxE6EI&hl=en

Scratch a famous person, you'll often find bankers in the mix.

3. These are not "self-made" people. No "up by your own bootstraps" here.
But there are people who think that these are some kind of "Horatio Alger" heroes like in the stories.

"Born on Third Base" so it was not so hard to score a run.

5. Right. Got it.
I should have drafted an entire dissertation about the members in the OP's diatribe. Then, I could have easily figured out from the vague stupidity of the same OP what the, again, OP was stating.

How foolish of me. Sorry to be a burden and stumble across a stupid, vague, moronic fist-shaking post and wonder what the fuck it was all about.

Learned my lesson, thanks.

27. Well, this is interesting. Gates' great granpa Maxwell was also
a principal in the Northern Life Insurance Co. One of the other principals was Thomas S. Lippy, who also was a principle in the Alaska Petroleum & Coal Company.

Along with HR Harriman. You know, Prescott Bush's pal.
