I think you guys are giving AC too much credit
Left wing political commentators make extreme remarks like that all this time -- granted, what they say tends to be correct, but still. RR went on for a few days about * being gay. Granted, she wasn't bashing gays, but still, there was no Right wing uproar that I recall. I think all this attention is emboldening the enemy, so to speak. I would just let them lie in their own filth.

33. Is it possible to disagree with people without calling them "fucktards"??
Is "fucktard" close to being a slur against the mentally handicapped? When DUers refer to Coulter as a "shemale" isn't that demeaning to transexuals?

2. Can you please give an example of "left wing political commentators" making "extreme remarks"

And I only didn't edit my choice of words on "faggot" because I'm among the GLBT community AND because it's so "acceptable" on DU these days.

17. All I'm saying is to leave the enemy alone...
...when they are killing themselves. Americans will never accept Colter's attitude and language as it is now unacceptable in American culture. The only thing keeping her around now is her ratings, which she gains through hate mongering. Let the hate end there.

of Coulter fans, and plenty of corpmedia whores continue to air her hateful Naziesque comments.

Still, you're avoiding the question. Please give an example of left-wing commentators who engage in similarly "extremist" remarks.

26. Obviously I can't give a satisfactory answer
What they consider extreme, and what we consider extreme, are two different things. They would think calling * a mass murderer is much worse than using a bad word associated with hate crimes.

I will admit, I'm probably wrong about this. There is nothing wrong with discussing it.

The only thing that still frustrated me is Colter's continued success. I'm looking at this from a media perspective. She is the kind of evil enemy that will grow stronger the more she is attacked. On the other hand, if anyone intelligent DUer has any real solutions for destroying her career I'm up for it.

37. No, you can't, because your premise was false and flawed from the beginning.
The media is to blame, indeed. Reform of the media is the only practical answer--the repeal of the fairness doctrine and deregulation of media ownership are to blame.

NOT "left-wing commentators." You should apologize and redact your OP.

43. Apologize for What????
I did not "blame" left-wing commentators for anything. All I said was they make extreme comments.

Actually, come to think of it, I never even said their comments are "as" extreme as Colter's; nevertheless, I'm constantly being told to prove something I never even said.

I will apologize, though, if I somehow offended anyone unintentionally.

So, for "emboldening the enemy," you're BLAMING those who discuss her remarks, as well as de facto "blaming" (or at least, diminishing blame on the actual perpetrators for whatever consequences/effects her remarks may have) those who you say are her equivalent in whatever "problem" you suggest exists. Obviously, you feel a problem exists; otherwise, you wouldn't have taken the time to comment on why WE and left-wing commentators should take issue with her Naziesque remarks. Right?

Not trying to be unnecessarily argumentative--but you have made several unsubstantiated claims and inferences. If you said something in your OP that was hyperbolic, that's cool--you should just own up to it.

25. Randi All But Talked Her Way Off Of Talk Shows
While I love Randi, there are times she'll say things that will make me cringe. She'll go for that emotion or shock factor to make a point that hits it on the head with a balpeen hammer. While her fans love it, it comes off very shrill and over-the-top to outsiders and thus had hurt her throughout her career. For a while Lou Doobies brought her on until she said things that obviously offended Doobies and I haven't seen her on the tube in months. Now if the corporate media would apply the same standard to Coultergeist...

20. It's Not Us...It's The Corporate Media
I've long considered Coultergeist irrelevant...a gadfly who only makes her noises to get attention and sell her screeds. I'm more amused by her antics than outraged as I know taking her seriously brings me down to her level.

The problem is with the corporate media that invites her onto the Today show or the Washington Post who writes glowing reveues of Maulkin...giving legitimacy and a "mainstream blessing" on their hate. They've turned Coultergeist's 15 minutes of fame, that should have vanished with Linda Tripp, into a decade-long freak show. For most, Coultergeist's act has long worn thin, thus to get attention now, she must rely on more and more shrill rhetoric and, just like a shock jock, must keep "topping" herself to keep in the public eye.

While I'm outraged profane verbage, I don't expect her to appologize nor would I accept it if offered. However, I do expect those who were her patrons to defend their actions...do they also believe as Coultergeist does? Are they, once again, demonstrating a hypocritical double-standard by slamming the smallest Democratic flap while not just ignoring, but embracing the slimiest elements of the right wing and allow them to lie, slander and polarize?

I hope for two things here...one is for each Repugnican candidate to denounce her crap and for the corporate media to treat her like the poison in the human condition she is. Many of us here in the blogosphere will be watching and won't let them forget.

23. * being gay? And Randi? I like her, but she's hardly in the same
realm (even in our party) as ac is in hers. Coulter gets press because she's a loudmouth that says outrageous things some people agree with, coupled with writing books. The wilder her remarks are, the more people will talk (except the orgs. mentioned here):

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x3143007

Most people in ac's world have never even heard of RR.

And there is no comparison; what coulter said was hateful, to lots of people including Edwards. Why she is the icon to the right for so many people is baffling, and needs to be addressed.

Bull and shit.

Fuck, Ann Coulter has already called Bill Clinton, Al Gore and John Edwards "fags" or "faggots".

I don't recall one single liberal commentor saying anything like that? Molly Ivins? Nope. Jim Hightower, perhaps? Nope. How about Eric Alterman? Don't think so.

I've been called a lot of names, so let me try to explain myself by putting it this way...

I heard someone at the laundromat use the same word -- why aren't we talking about HIM in 10 dozen threads? Oh, let's see, Coulter's famous. That's what she wants us to think. And I'm sure she is enjoying the attention. I really don't like seeing her get the attention she wants.

With regard to what I said about left wing hosts. My only point is that no matter how much Repukes are irritated, at least they never go on such a rampage because at least they have the sense to know that the attention would just bolster their careers as a result.

As I said earlier, if anyone has an intelligent plan for destroying AC's career, I would be up for THAT conversation.

Obviously I was referring to the myriad of threads on the subject. But now I realize I should not be a topic cop. Rant all you want. That's what the DU is for I guess. I just thought that one or two threads were more than enough attention for her, since she makes a living garnering attention from being a hate monger.

53. Not rhetorical...
When I divide groups up into "us's" and "them's", i generally have a good idea of who "us" is and who "them" is. for exampe, i work in a union shop. in certain contexts, "us" is union" and "them" is management. In another context, "us" is people in our shop (union and management) and 'them" is people in other shops.

So, again, who is "us" and who is "youse"?

I personally couldn't care less about what she says. She's one of a million hate mongers who I consider septic tank leftovers. I would not normally talk about her any more than I'd talk about that.

"Us" is people who understand media and the fact that any attention at all will benefit her particular career, which is specifically to rile up liberals.
