60 MINUTES tonight: THE LIST PROJECT. Please watch!
Edited on Sun May-25-08 02:23 PM by shireen
This guy, who is trying to help Iraqi refugees, many of them who fled for their lives simply because they worked with Americans, is my hero. I first heard about him when Paul Riekoff mentioned him during an interview with Rachel Maddow. I checked out his website, and was stunned and overwhelmed by what he was doing. A really really amazing young man: Kirk Johnson.

Please send them a few dollars, if you can afford it.
Personally speaking, as a citizen, I feel some responsibility for the plight of these refugees -- i never supported this war, yet my tax dollars have been used towards destroying their lives. I feel a lot of guilt about it. Sending just a few bucks their way is a small gesture of recognition and support for their plight, and to let them know that many Americans are horrified by what our country has done to Iraq.

I'm very glad to see that 60 Minutes is doing a segment on The List Project; Johnson and his friends deserve all the support and recognition possible for their heroic work.

The List: A Mission To Save Iraqi Lives

(CBS) The refugee crisis in Iraq is among the biggest humanitarian emergencies in the world. Millions of Iraqis have fled the war, many marked for death because they worked for the United States. They were translators, office workers, many other things, but now the enemy has branded them as collaborators.

When that happened in Vietnam, the U.S. brought more than 100,000 refugees to the states. But today, the U.S. government, which was so desperate for Iraqi workers, is not so eager to help them now.

As correspondent Scott Pelley reports, one young American named Kirk Johnson has jumped into this breach. All he wanted to do was rescue one of his Iraqi co-workers. When he did, a thousand more pleaded for help and Johnson began "the list." ....

3. you're right! MY APOLOGIES!!! It was last week, I got the date wrong!
I saw this on the 60 minutes site and assumed it was today. I'm really really sorry ....

At least people who missed it can watch it at the CBS website, or read the transcript.

The List Project is a U.S. non-profit, founded in 2007 with the belief that the United States Government has a clear and urgent moral obligation to resettle to safety Iraqis who are imperiled due to their affiliation with the United States of America. We are the first comprehensive organizational effort to honor the sacrifice of these Iraqis.
