The reason I can't watch Recount...
It was far to painful to live through that mess.

I remember on Fox news they had a huge map of the US behind them with all the countied colored Blue and Red.

It made it look as if the GOP was favored in about 95% of the US while the Dems were relegated to little islands of blue clustered around the big cities. IT was a powerful visual that I know played into the GOP's hands.

That was scarry to me. I had never watched Fox before and realized what a crock of shit they were right from the get go.

I Just don't care to have all of that dragged out before me again.

I am angry enough at what the GOP did and still very very disappointed at the lack of fight on our side.

It was a street fight and they brought their game while we hid behind lawyers and weak stomachs.

I remember Lieberman tossing in the towel first before Gore and his team even decided.

It was an embarrassment to me and all the other people who have put in so much to get so little from our party.

And then again, here came 2004 when the same situation arose, our back-boneless party just kicked the dirt and said Aw Shucks, you won.

Now I firmly believe that Obama isn't going to take that kind of shit from anyone let alone a bunch of pasty faced Washington insiders who pretend to be street fighters.

That's why I can't watch.

It might trigger another bound of Post Electoral Depression...

1. Oh wow, do I ever hear you!
My beloved husband is busy programming it as we speak...

I told him, no fucking way will I relive that horror!

A terrible time...

Scary, sad, heart in my throat choking with grief time...

And I know you're right about Obama!

He would never lie down and let those fucking Republicans roll over him! :nuke:

4. I'm watching, you should
You'll see how hard our team fought and how partisanship and lies did them in at every step.

11. It shoorh looked like Lieberman was working for the other side
And I can't say that Gore seemed very interested in fighting either.

8. I'll watch people talk about -- spacey on Charlie Rose
-- but I won't watch it. All I have to do is pick the scab by watching Fat Tony tell Leslie Stahl "get over it" and the rage is still there.

9. I don't need to see it to remember the constitutional crime that was perpetrated by this junta.
They stole the election...just like they did in 2004. I'll never forget, but I don't feel like getting my BP torqued up.

13. Regardless If You Want To Watch It Or Not.....
....we all need to be profoundly grateful that this HBO production came to pass.

I watched it last night, and I thought it was absolutely superb. Painful as hell, but beautifully made. It's important for as many people as possible to remember what a profoundly unjust screwing this country took in 2000, from the old folks mishandling the poorly designed ballots, all the way to the Bush campaign operatives getting their payoffs for all their dirty work in the form of important positions in the regime. I guarantee that this movie will make you remember things you've forgotten about the entire travesty. A very, very valuable piece of work....

18. It's Safe, And I Recommend It

A couple of points:

1.) This is the movie that ought to be seen by all those smug "Get Over It" Republicans who have been dogging us for all these years. Maybe some of them (certainly not all of them) would grasp just how much they really expect us to get over.

2.) I understand that Warren Christopher and his friends are upset about his portrayal in the movie. While his actions may have been highlighted and accentuated to some degree, this movie points out an absolutely crucial point: when Republicans come to a fight like a bunch of street thugs, Democrats need to get down on their level and do battle, rather than turning the other cheek and expecting to prevail with noble sentiments and Marquis of Queensbury rules. We see this sort of wimpy attitude espoused all the time here at DU---Oh, heaven forefend that we Democrats sully ourselves by meeting Republicans in the gutter. Make no mistake: the Repubs expect this kind of wussy mindset and they use it against us, over and over again. Never again.

Grit your teeth and watch it. I think you'll be glad you did.

The day that Gore gave up is the day I turned the TV off. I didn't turn it on again until my mother called on 9/11 to tell me what was happening in New York. I still can't keep the TV on if Bush is on - I don't care what he is saying, I have to flip it off. James Baker is another one that I can't ever look at again. He is such a smarmy, flippant slime. I can't look at Cheney, either. It makes me sick when he comes "home" (Casper, WY) to visit and I have to see his face all over the papers and hear people talking about what a "great guy" he is. They all make me physically sick. There's no way I can sit through and watch that program, as good as it may very well be.

17. The worst part for me was:
The part where the sign-toting Bushbots barged into the recount office like a street gang, and there were no cops to arrest them. :scared:

21. Do you remember the trial following that incident?
In a small Florida courtroom, a supposedly Democratic judge asked "Did they cause any damage"? Then they were let off the hook.

I've been trying to find references to this for awhile, but I guess my research isn't quite up to snuff.

1) December 12, 2000
2) September 11, 2001

It's bad enough watching GD-P recently. That is enough trauma.
