8. Good for you. I suppose you want to die before the age of 70?
If you think that age should be a limit to holding the office of President, then I am sorry that you haven't known more older people with whom you might have been impressed. Many of us have known many elderly that we would be glad to be President - sorry that you haven't known such great elders, it is your loss.

I am not saying that McCain would be a good president (quite the contrary), I am just saying that age is of no importance...

10. Huh? Ok, I'm not talking about "older" people, whoever that is to you...
I'm talking about a 72 year old guy taking on one of the very toughest jobs in the country. So which is McCain to you anyway---someone older? Or someone who is elderly?

24. I don't think that any age, in and of itself, is a limitation
for the Presidency. I have known several 72 year olds that I believe would have made, and would make, excellent Presidents. I have known many, many 45-60 year olds who would have (and have) made terrible Presidents. Being 72 years old does not exclude anyone from the office, either by law or by competency. I understand what you mean; you mean that McCain is not capable of being a competent President. I agree with you. His age, however, has nothing to do with it...

6. I believe his age is a serious issue.
Many things go south when you get older. I'm 57 and, while I think my mind is still pretty sharp, I'm definately not the man I was at 32. That's 25 years. Isn't that about the difference in their ages? If elected, mccain would be the oldest president ever elected. While it may be politically wise for BO to say it's not an issue, just wait until they stand next to each other at a debate. Obama has the advantage in looks, height, youth, and intelligence.

5. But don't you know that his mother is a healthy 96!
They neglect to tell you that his father died at age 70 and his grandfather at 61.

7. I have no problem with McCain's age
I sure as hell have a problem with his judgment.

I see no reason an older person should not be President, provided the older person has intact faculties and is healthy. It's just that Grampa McCain is definitely not that person.

Ageism is as bad as sexism and racism.

13. I think the issue is more than just an "older" person seeking this office.
Interesting to me are the ages of the primary GOP'ers who were/are engaged in the primary season.

J.McCain almost 72
Ron Paul is 72
Fred Thompson is 64
Rudy G. is 62
M. Huckabee almost 52
M. Romney is 48

BTW- the definition of ageism is:

Denial of privileges as well as other unfair treatment of employees on the basis of age, which is prohibited by federal law under the Age Discrimination Unemployment Act of 1967. This act was amended in 1978 to protect employees up to 70 years of age, and in 1986 to protect mandatory retirement.

To question the age of any of the candidates does not equate to ageism.

25. "Ageism" is discriminating against a person solely because
of his/her age. It is like "racism" and "sexism" - it does not rely upon a law or act of the legislature to be evident or to be felt. Look, I am not defending McCain, he is a loathsome miscreant, but by using his age as a disqualifier, you have to be willing to disqualify everyone of the same age. And that you cannot do in honesty...

17. There are a surprising number of young people in nursing homes.
Lots of people with disabilities too difficult for a group home to handle (Huntingtons, brain injury), so that skews the age down.

Not that I support McCain! But his age is the ONLY thing that doesn't bother me about him.
