by 5 pts. Something remarkable is going on. I don't pretend to full understand it, but it's looking more and more like dems could pick up as many as 8+ Senate seats.

7. I'm in Kentucky -- McConnell's claws haven't even come out yet.
McConnell has a huge treasure trove ready to throw at Lunsford in the Fall, and Lunsford is a "Republican Lite" candidate.

Let's not count our chickens just yet.

16. I'm in Kentucky, too, and the thought of maybe sending Mean Mitch
Edited on Tue May-27-08 09:11 AM by Democrat 4 Ever
home has me all giddy (I'm not the giddy type). But Kentuckians would be wise not to count Mean Mitch out. He puts a new meaning on the phrase "dirty politics." He cut his teeth, made his bones, was initiated into the GOP club by being the meanest, nastiest, cheating-est SOB around. There was nothing he wasn't willing to say, do and hire to have done to get Dee Huddleston's seat back in the day. His campaigns since then have just proven that even pond scum can go lower.

He is already running ads that we should re-elect him because he over came polio and was a star Little League baseball player. Really it is his due to be a Senator because he overcame an illness as a child. Personally, I hope Lunsford bells that cat with Chucklenuts Bush and never let a single Kentuckian forget that Mean Mitch has been the front man for some of the worst policy decisions in the last eight years.

Lunsford maybe be repug lite but at this point in Kentucky politics that is what we are stuck with. He has a D after his name and that is what we need to get to 60 Senators for our new Democratic president.

Edit for typos - some days ya just can't type.

8. I don't want to pop the cork on the victory champagne just yet but that
is a VERY encouraging poll.

Let's hope it stays blue through summer and fall there in Kentucky. I could sure get into a U.S. Senate without that worthless toadie McConnell.

10. I'm excited about Shaheen up in NH - she should have won that 6 years ago.
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/2008_senate_elections/new_hampshire/election_2008_new_hampshire_senate

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of New Hampshire voters shows hardly any change in the state’s U.S. Senate race. Jeanne Shaheen (D) now leads incumbent Senator John Sununu (R) 50% to 43%. A month ago, Shaheen led 51% to 43%. The race is remarkably stable. Prior to the current poll showing a seven-point Shaheen lead, the challenger had enjoyed an eight-point lead in three consecutive monthly polls.

______________________________

As you know NH republicans have been hit with major scandal with the phone jamming controversy. Seems that the GOP thought it would be helpful for voters to jam support lines that would help voters find their voting poll place. I have a feeling that this controversy will give Jeanne the support she needs to topple Sununu (although with all do respect Sununu isn't as vile as some of the republicans like McConnell but any pickup is a plus for us!)

14. They're doing a good hit job on Franken - using everything from his past
But I just saw on the Rausseman page that Obama is leading McCain by double digits so this has got to help.

15. 2008 is going to be 2006 squared for the GOP
Which means that every hour you're on a phone line, every door you knock on, every voter you engage in your volunteer work for whatever campaign you work for, is going to yield good results. The major media would like to pretend that November is going to be some kind of a contest, but that's just window dressing. If you're watching a baseball game that's 8-1 in the seventh inning, the announcers will be talking about baseball history, what they had for lunch, what somebody said at dinner last night, and a rundown of historic comebacks. They'll be talking about anything, that is, than the snorer of a game that's unfolding right in front of them. That's because they don't want people tuning out, and they get paid for keeping their audience.

So we're going to be subjected to endless prattling about anything than the train wreck of an election that's headed the Republicans' way in November. Don't pay any attention to the blather, just keep working for your candidate, because the pay-off come November is going to be huge.
