Help needed - a list of elected Iraq War Veterans. Trying to put together something
I read the home page about how Bush 'claims' he's doing everything to help our soldiers but yet we know that his non-support of the GI Bill is a travesty.

And it got me to thinking - it seems that there have been an increased number of Iraq War Veterans (we're talking the current one here) that have been running for office. And to me, it seems the bulk of them are running as Democrats.

That's a powerful statement - if Bush really was doing right by the Iraq War vets wouldn't these people be running as republicans? And yet it seems they aren't.

So this is the list I'm looking to put together and it can include the following:

  • Anyone who served in the current Iraq War or the first one. Might as well cover both. You can also include anyone serving over in Afghanistan too.
  • Parents/Spouses who, having never served before, are running for office as a result of their loved one who is currently (or was) a part of the Iraq War. Example - Jim Webb would count because he just recently ran as a result of his son being in Iraq. However, Joe Biden, whose son is getting ready to ship out to Iraq, would not count since Joe has been in office long before the wars. Since I would like to make a list of all parties we can include people like Cindy Sheehan and even Michael Berg (although technically his son was a contractor but still it was a major loss for the Berg family).
  • You can show both people who are in office (Patrick Murphy, PA-08) or people who attempted to run Paul Hackett (who ran for several offices in Ohio)

My point I'm hoping to make is that war veterans, especially those of the current wars, are NOT running as republicans. It would also be interesting to determine what kind of duty in Iraq that these people served.

Thanks for your help
