Freepers are Funny! Conservatives Shocked At Dunkin' Donuts' Terrorist Ties
Too stupid!

http://wonkette.com/393078/conservatives-shocked-at-dunkin-donuts-terrorist-ties

Masterful bloggers Michelle Malkin and Charles Johnson (of Little Green Footballs) are very outraged by this Dunkin' Donuts advertisement featuring teevee chef Rachael Ray. Can you guess why? No, it is not because the trees look liberal, although they do. Rachael's "scarf" is actually the Palestinian kaffiyeh, and she is supporting Palestinian hate and terrorism by wearing it. Malkin would like to hear more from Dunkin' Donuts before she decides whether or not to boycott the chain, because of the terrorist scarf this chef is wearing.

1. So it's "hateful" and "terroristic" to even wear something that's ID'd as of "Palestine."
Edited on Tue May-27-08 01:12 PM by ShortnFiery
What? Are we supposed to PRETEND that Palestinians don't exist? I understand that they are disenfranchised but hey, THEY EXIST. I also think their scarf pattern is lovely based merely on visual sensibilities.

I wonder if Maulkin would get AS UPSET if this person was sporting the loser-traitors' "Stars and Bars" flag?!?

20. Haven't you heard? ALL Palestinians are terraists...
Simply by being there, they are creating terror in the hearts of all those peace-loving settlers chopping down their olive groves and appropriating their water supplies.

Are we supposed to PRETEND that Palestinians don't exist? I understand that they are disenfranchised but hey, THEY EXIST.

Yes, they do exist...but they shouldn't. Horribly insensitive of them. Can't a pro-Western government colonize in peace? :sarcasm:

39. Palestine
has a damn good reason to fight against Israel. The UN gave Israel territory which did not belong to the UN to begin with. Then Israel fought wars to get more territory. The Palestinian people were forced from their homelands and put into reservations (to draw a parallel with the USA) or ghettos (to draw a parallel with WWII). People can call the Palestinians terrorists all they want but I will refer to them as freedom fighters. Many people here in France support the Palestinians and think the Israelis are out of line. In the USA such a stance, hell even criticizing the Likud party, gets me painted as anti-Semitic. I don't give a damn because I know my problem is with the Likud party of Israel and not the Jewish religion.

2. Dunkin Donuts is indeed linked to terrorists.
But not the way the Freeps think.......

It's owned by the Carlyle Group division of the Bush Crime Family, as is Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream.

But why not let Michelle Malkin live in her illusions, and boycott her own kind

23. It's just the wingnuts shilling for Krispy Kreme...
Now, there's a good old-time Southern business! Check the "nostalgic" photos of their stores from the '50s and '60s displayed in many of their current locations. See if you can find any black faces among the customers. Can't see any? Are you surprised?

51. Good Lord - think you have to go far enough back to make a point?
MOST places - EVERYWHERE - were segregated in the 50s and 60s, not just in the South. Yes, the South took a while longer to get with the program, but I wouldn't put it all at Krispy Kreme's feet.

Most businesses, period, have some right-wing ties, these days, and I'm sure Krispi Kreme has its share, but I will say this: they do a lot of charity work and donate a lot of donuts, time and energy to white kids, black kids, brown kids, etc., at least locally, so I'm not going to fuss about something that happened at a wide-spread clip 50 years ago and has since been corrected.

I wish Michelle would give us a list of all the allowed and non-allowed things. Because I'd hate to accidentally buy a pretty scarf at Macy's and send off jihadist signals. According to the people posting on Malkin's site, Palestinian patterns include black on white checkers, black on red checkers, or any checkerboards at all.

Oh! Oh! The game of CHECKERS ITSELF is jihadist!

At least the ones I've seen. I also used to have one myself when I lived in France for a couple of years. They were the popular thing to wear around your neck with a leather jacket. I'm Jewish and am saddened by how Israel has sometimes behaved in regard to the Palestinian issue, I certainly don't support Palestinian terrorism!

55. UPDATE: Cowardly Dunkin Donus pulled the ad.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/05/28/dunkin-donuts-pulls-ad-fe_n_103859.html

Dunkin Donuts has pulled a commercial featuring pitchwoman Rachael Ray wearing a scarf because Michelle Malkin and other conservative observers thought the scarf looked too much like a keffiyeh, what Malkin describes as "the traditional scarf of Arab men that has come to symbolize murderous Palestinian jihad."

The Boston Globe reports that Dunkin Donuts caved to pressure from the conservative blogosphere — and the fear of a mass boycott — and removed the ad:

The company at first pooh-poohed the complaints, claiming the black-and-white wrap was not a keffiyeh. But the right-wing drumbeat on the blogosphere continued and by yesterday, Dunkin' Donuts decided it'd be easier just to yank the ad.

Said the suits in a statement: ''In a recent online ad, Rachael Ray is wearing a black-and-white silk scarf with a paisley design. It was selected by her stylist for the advertising shoot. Absolutely no symbolism was intended. However, given the possibility of misperception, we are no longer using the commercial.''

(And then we have Malkin prattering on about how wonderful Dunkin is for listening to her squawks, but I'll not bother to post it here. Go to the link for that.)
