Dunkin' Donuts yanks Rachael Ray ad
http://www.boston.com/ae/celebrity/articles/2008/05/27/dunkin_donuts_yanks_rachael_ray_ad/

Does Dunkin’ Donuts really think its customers could mistake Rachael Ray for a terrorist sympathizer? The Canton-based company has abruptly canceled an ad in which the domestic diva wears a scarf that looks like a keffiyeh, a traditional headdress worn by Arab men.

more stories like thisSome observers, including ultra-conservative Fox News commentator Michelle Malkin, were so incensed by the ad that there was even talk of a Dunkin’ Donuts boycott.

‘‘The keffiyeh, for the clueless, is the traditional scarf of Arab men that has come to symbolize murderous Palestinian jihad,’’ Malkin yowls in her syndicated column.

‘‘Popularized by Yasser Arafat and a regular adornment of Muslim terrorists appearing in beheading and hostage-taking videos, the apparel has been mainstreamed by both ignorant and not-so-ignorant fashion designers, celebrities, and left-wing icons.’’

I hate repubs!!!

2. What idiots
Instead of pulling the ad, why didn't they take the opportunity to educate people that A.) That isn't a keffiyeh and B.) even if it was, a woman wouldn't be wearing it; and C.) even if it was, so what? Most Palestinian males, most of whom are NOT terrorists, wear this traditional headdress merely to show alliegence to their homeland, in much the same way right-wingers yell about Obama not wearing a flag.

:P

3. Turn on "The View" and look at Whoopi Goldberg's vest.
Appears Whoopi has an answer for Rachel Ray's critics.

25. Whoopi's vest had the SAME pattern as the one on Rachael Ray's scarf.
IMHO, Whoopi was sending a message.

5. Let see...
Rachael wearing a scarf-very bad, Liz hoping someone will assassinate Obama-O.K.? :wtf:
I don't think this will hurt Rachael too much but the prioritizes of some people are very scary.

15. Ridiculous.
...considering that for years they ran a campaign with the slogan "Time to make the donuts," featuring an actor that bore more than a passing resemblance to Saddam Hussein.

Not that the similarity bothered me in the least, but I did think it was funny at the time.

24. Everybody was wearing keffiyehs in the 80s in NYC, but the fad faded in the 90s.
Edited on Wed May-28-08 07:43 PM by aikoaiko

I'm surprised to see them come back around already.

eta: the complete look was keffiyah, black leather biker jacket, blue jeans, and and black doc martin-like shoes. Better that they weren't DocMartins because that was just too trendy. Oh and Rayban aviators....black frames with dark lenses. ;)

27. Michele Malkintent is such a mega FAIL.
She should be tied down and forced to listen to herself on a continuous loop until her head explodes. Someone can stick a scarf on her, while they're at it.
