Check out what McClellan said about Richard Clarke's book back in the day
I think that McClellan is telling the truth about the stuff he put in his book, but I found it interesting that he chose to wait until now to expose this crap when he would have had much more moral authority to do so when he was still press secretary. So I tried to find what he had said about a similar type situation back in 2004 and here's what I found from the White House's own website:
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2004/03/20040322-4.html#4

Q Why do you think he (Clarke)'s doing this?

MR. McCLELLAN: Well, why, all of a sudden, if he had all these grave concerns, did he not raise these sooner? This is one-and-a-half years after he left the administration. And now, all of a sudden, he's raising these grave concerns that he claims he had. And I think you have to look at some of the facts. One, he is bringing this up in the heat of a presidential campaign. He has written a book and he certainly wants to go out there and promote that book. Certainly let's look at the politics of it.

Much more damning stuff there.

Again, I'm not doing this because I don't believe what he's saying, I'm just saying that he's a damn hypocrite and people like him that don't stand up for what's right immediately are why our government is so royally fucked.

2. I applaud Snotty for talking, and wish he had the courage to do it early on
before so many had to die for his cowardice.

3. There wasn't a big check in it for him back then
if you think this has anything to do with something other than money I got a bridge to sell you.

6. Obviously cash is a big motivator
But I think Scotty has actually undergone a review of his ideology and can see now
that what he did was wrong and (perhaps, almost) why. He always seemed like a good guy, just misguided and ball-less.

How much do you want for the bridge? will it fit in my backyard?

14. If this had anything to do with his convictions he wouldn't be signing a book deal
he is exploiting this to make money, period.

As far as the bridge goes make me an offer and we'll work out the details. I hope you got pay pal.

16. If he was still in the pockets of the Neocons, the book wouldn't come out til after November

I retain hope--his mother is a good democrat and might have gotten through to him at last. And he'll obviously never get another job in the Bush administration, so if he can make some money on his true experiences, more power to him.

I'll give you a dollar if it will pass inspection. (only about 15% do)

5. Yep, he wants to have it both ways
Accusing others of what they do is SOP with BushCo.

I hope this is one of the many things KO raises with Scotty -- if he turns up for his interview.

What I really hope KO asks Scotty is if he's so interested in coming clean, why doesn't he answer his Congressional subpoena?

7. Me? If he really believed what he's saying now...he would have quit
immediately. The fact that we had to suffer through thousands of press conferences with him sweating his way through them...does not redeem him in my eyes. He's still a huge sellout and not worthy of my respect. Sorry, Scotty! You should have walked away immediately and pointed out that the "liberal" press bias is SIMPLY A MYTH!

If you had done this, then I would truly respect you.

12. Him blaiming 'media' for not doing its job while he kept calling on Gannon at pressers
sorta adds to evidence that he is trying to avoid responsibility for HIS PART in all the lies.

19. Yeah! Do you think he was "required" to call on Gannon?
Or was it just an easy out for him? Either way, he knew what he was doing, he participated fully...so NO SYMPATHY FROM ME!

8. hypocrites
Yes, all of the hypocrites should be hounded and reminded of what they are. Laugh in his face and ask him what's the difference between his motives and Clark's. What exactly are his concerns and we want some details. No more nice Dems, we need to push back.

Ridiculing and laughing at them will work to discredit them to their public - they seem to have perfected that technique, we should run with it; especially since we have the truth on our side.

9. Well that was his job at the time
to talk out his ass on behalf of his criminal bosses. I give him credit for coming clean now, regardless of his motivation or his past sins.

11. So why is it that no one ever resigns in protest, before the fact...
Oh, that's right, if you resign there wont be anything to write about in your "tell all" book. The lesson here? Keep good notes, keep a journal - an encrypted journal.

18. For people like McClellen, the time to do the right thing is when there are no consequences ...
... and when he can make a buck off of it. McClellen needs to go fuck himself.

20. Clarke was disgruntled. Paul O'Neill was disgruntled. Literally hundreds of
others have resigned or quit the CIA, diplomatic corps, EPA, and more over disagreements with the WH.

People should pick up O'Neill's book if they haven't read it. In its time, it should have been discussed much, much more. But the WH did a full court press against O'Neill.

21. It's Called Striking While The Iron Is Hot
My bets are Snotty had this book written two years ago...it's been sitting in his word processor until the publisher said it's time to cash in. Boooosh bashing is now a cottage industry as the GOOP start to look for scapegoats for their messes. Right now Snotty will be a target, but then I suspect we'll see others in this regime coming forward, too...Rove, Card, Powell, Fleischer and others who will also try to spin their way out of their crimes...and sock a few bucks away for the effort.

Or course the corporate media will treat this like some kid talking out of class...sour grapes...as there are too many of their own questions that go unanswered with each one Snotty tries to spin about.

The fun here could be if Snotty takes his new-found "reformer" fame onto shows like the Daily Show and to alternative media and gets into a pissing match with the corporate media. It'll be like the cobra and the moongoose...and I'm not sure which is which.
