6 lions eat South African man
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080528/ap_on_re_af/south_africa_lions">AP via Yahoo

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa - Police say six caged lions left only fingers and intestines after eating a worker giving them water.

The lions attacked the 49-year-old man Tuesday after he went inside their cage to deliver water, police said Wednesday.

The man had been working at the Uitspan game farm in northwest South Africa for at least two years, police said. No one witnessed the attack.

Environmental affairs was called to the game farm, which cages lions and other animals for tourists' viewing, to discus the fate of the lions.

5. Don't turn your back.
My late Father-in-Law had a couple of lions at his ranch for some years.

One day, he just turned away to walk out of the cage and woke up in the hospital.

21. actually not really
lions (and tigers) do not usually eat humans. the problem is, once they start, they will continue.

22. I'm sure "lizzy" will be here soon to propose the lions all be destroyed ASAP.
She thinks that they are evil for doing what they naturally evolved over millions of years to do.

23. no, they can just be caged
and they must be. otherwise they will hunt and kill people.

Lions have not evolved to hunt and kill humans, otherwise it would be much more common. there are, in fact, wild lions living in fairly close proximity to humans.

so yes, cage them or kill them before they kill more people. it's the only way. sorry.

9. I know what I'm going to say is gross, but they usually
eat the intestines and guts of prey.

So that's surprising to hear.

Sad.

29. Sometimes carnivores don't
I have found rodent intestines and guts in my yard. Some predator killed them and gutted them, probably eating the rest. Gross I know but the vultures usually finish off the rest later.

17. Minor irony in the name of the place
"Uitspan" = outspan, what was done at the end of the day with the oxen pulling the wagons during the Great Trek. They were unyoked and allowed to walk free, eating. Grass, in their case.

20. Having been to romote area ....
where I was low on the food chain....wild animals are wild animals. Frankly, we are tender, juicy and don't have feathers, quills, or exoskeletons. We make good eating. The only thing we have to defend ourselves is our brains....need I say more.

28. Let me tell you what the fate of the lions should be
They need to be transferred, en masse, to the National Zoo in Washington, DC. In America we have a vast number of Republicans who could be retrained to deliver water to them.
