41. David Gregory only grew a backbone a few years ago, starting in early 2004,

when he jousted with snotty scotty over bush's questionable Texas Air National Guard duty. My husband and I were both watching that news conference on CSPAN, and I remember it so well - we turned to each other, slackjawed, and said - WOW, we're finally getting some fire out of the press corps! It was noticeable in its rarity and its extreme difference from all the other newsers we'd watched (and had been bored by). Well, some of 'em.

Also saw him protesting his innocence in a panel with Helen Thomas, and she, too, pointed out that he didn't do much in terms of trying to be really aggressive ALL THE WAY ALONG. He yammered and mewled about how he DID, TOO, ask questions! Helen stood her ground - NO you didn't. She was correct. She still is correct. And for FAR too long she was ALONE. I am DEEPLY disappointed in David Gregory today.
