The Google - any one else notice what's missing there this week?
There is no more 'search within a search'. I use it a lot for work - and just couldn't believe they have done away with the one function that differentiates them from all the other search engines.

I called their 800 number today to just make sure - perhaps the link was now somewhere else that I just wasn't seeing? Nope. It's gone. The receptionist answering the phone said it's just gone. And nope, there is no one else to talk to about why it's gone. It's just gone. According to her, search engines are so sophisticated now, that feature is not needed.

Any one care about this? I find it very frustrating.

1. I never used that.
But you can still search within a particular website. I have great success with searches.
My preference is to start out with as much detail as possible and then narrow from there.

What did you use search within search for?

2. It just narrows it down.

For instance today - I was searching for a retail establishment in a certain town that had a somewhat generic name. In the past I could write that name and do a search and then search within that search for the town/state it was in. Saved a lot of time.

8. Yep did that.
And that didn't have the results I needed. I will just have to get over it.

3. i like that feature but the same results can be achieved through other methods...
like the advanced search page:
http://www.google.com/advanced_search?hl=en

you can do many precise searches with this

4. Well - yes.
It is the same as other search sites and it takes more time. Very disappointed that they would lose such a simple feature.

6. IMO
You'll actually get better results and save time using the method above. Type the name and City, State.
You will get a lot more relevant links, usually including citysearch, which is a pretty good site. I will use anything for a search term, even just phone numbers. At work, one of our drivers had a delivery with an address, but the business name was wrong and he couldn't find it. I searched on the street address and found it. Search engines are AMAZING. Love them.

7. Yeah. I did that. Even used the "quotes" around the name of the place
Just came up with lots of unrelated gloppy sites. Never did find the address of the place - just related sites.

Guess I am just destined to mope and whine about this for awhile. Will try to improve my attitude.
