I responded and then sent a LTTE touching on that subject. It was published yesterday on 5/27/2008 ---> Link to my Letter

The poll was:
Should flag burning be protected free speech?

Yes, it's a legitimate type protest:
No, this is one place to draw a line:
I'm not sure:

The response was almost 70% for No.

1. good letter.........
my personal opinion is that if you think that burning a flag somehow harms the United States, then you believe in witchcraft.

3. Good LTTE
hope some folks have their eyes opened--especially liked the reference to the Ten Commandments, because they are so often used solely by the right wing.

4. The results of this poll are the reason why flag burning should be considered "free speech".
The Great Atty. William Kunstler said this in the TX vs. Johnson case. The First Amendment is not meant for speech we all celebrate and agree with. That speech needs nothing. The First Amendment is meant to protect speech which society would be most inclined to censor.

The oral argument is a thing of beauty. http://www.oyez.org/cases/1980-1989/1988/1988_88_155/argument/

I'm a purist. The more speech the better.
