It's Been A Long Time Since I Thought Much About ANWR - Do I Have The Basics Right?
(1) There isn't much oil there in the first place.
(2) Whatever's pumped out would be sold and shipped overseas anyway, resulting in no domestic relief.

That's what I seem to recall - but it could be dated, or even random neuron firings.

If ANWR was pumped out, it would supply about 6 months of our demand. Not much to ruin a pristine wilderness for, is it?

It would take about ten years to see the first drop of oil from ANWR.

It will even be more difficult in the future to extract oil from ANWR as the permafrost does not stay frozen as long as it used to. They cannot work the oil fields on the North slope during the summer anyway, only in winter. As winters get shorter and less severe the question is whether they would be able to work those fields at all with current technology.
