Memo To Pelosi: AHHHHHHH!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, in a wide-ranging editorial board interview with The Chronicle today, offered her own views on the bombshell book by former White House press secretary Scott McClellan, who charges that the Iraq war was a bungled policy and the Administration was in ''damage control'' over Hurricane Katrina.

While she hasn't yet read McClellan's tome ''I totally agree'' with his charges, said Pelosi. ''This war was unnecessary. Katrina was a black mark on how the government responded to the needs of our people, and didn't anticipate them.''

''This is a person who was talking to the press, supplied with information that he trusted to be truthful. So I'm sure he felt zapped. Because what could he say, except what he trusted to be the case?''

''I almost wonder how anybody associated with this war, unless they were of completely different philosophy, would not come to the conclusion that this war is a grotesque mistake, that it was misrepresented from the start, not prepared for correctly,'' said Pelosi.

''This war is a big lie. It was a lie to begin with..and it continues to be a lie..at some point, maybe the lies just got to be too heavy for him to carry,'' she said of the former White House spokesman.

11. I listen to a little bit of everything...
Metallica, Pink Floyd, Negativland, Skinny Puppy, Tangerine Dream, John Zorn, you name it.

But I do have a soft spot for the title track from The Dreaming. Damn good stuff.

4. Which house of congress does the impeaching?
And do we have enough votes to support an impeachment in the Senate?

7. has to start in the House, trial in the Senate. I think we should wait until Bush can't pardon them
February is a nice time of year for indictments I think. Not sure how we get Bush once he's out of office though. There must be some way.

12. The only way he is free and clear of his crimes is...
...if it's past the statute of limitations. All I have is this internets law GED that I just made up, so I may be wrong.

8. Starts in the House ... then goes to the Senate
I think in Bill's case, he WAS successfully impeached (i.e.,
the House voted in favor) but because the Senate DIDN'T vote
to remove him from office, he stayed on. (Is that right?)

14. technically articles from the house I guess but yeah, that's my impression too.
http://senate.gov/artandhistory/history/common/briefing/Senate_Impeachment_Role.htm

William Clinton

On December 19, 1998, the House of Representatives approved two articles of impeachment against President William J. Clinton, claiming the president had "willfully corrupted and manipulated the judicial process." The Senate trial began on January 14, 1999, and once again arguments focused on the definition of "high crimes and misdemeanors." Falling short of the necessary two-thirds vote on either article of impeachment (Article I, 55 to 45; Article II, 50 to 50), the Senate acquitted President Clinton on February 12, 1999.

15. looks like 2/3 needed (from the same senate link I posted)
The United States Constitution provides that the House of Representatives "shall have the sole Power of Impeachment." (Article I, section 2) and that "the Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments .... no person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two-thirds of the Members present." (Article I, section 3)

18. So...
Nancy Pelosi can't rally 67 (2/3 of 100) of her fellow senators to impeach Dumbya?

NOTE:See if you can find the glaringly obvious mistake in my post and where else in the thread the mistake is made

Edited on Thu May-29-08 11:52 PM by vpilot
damned embarrassed to say "I totally agree with his charges" since she took impeachment or any real accountability from Bu$hCo off the table. One can only hope that enough rank and file Dem House members pressure her to do something besides give lip service to accountability.

6. You can try and atone all you want, Nancy ... it's still a blot on your record
It should NEVER, NEVER, EVER have been taken off the
table. You guys have only yourselves to blame for the
egregious shit he's pulled in the past 2 years.

9. I just can't get any angrier than I already am over this
I saw Pelosi's statement earlier today and then I watched Scotty squirm and hedge in KO's not-so-hot seat, and I've just given up on the whole thing. Goddammit if there isn't going to be any justice then I want to go back to being one of the blissful ignorant so at least I don't have to look around in horror and wonder where the hell my country is anymore. I'm really really tired of all this.

It's been in massive decline since Nixon. Pelosi is one of the people who helped kill it.

17. I feel betrayed by Pelosi
I think by her taking impeachment off the table, she denied US OUR constitutional right to change our government when it is not working on our behalf.

21. The Soldier's Oath...
"I DO SOLEMNLY SWEAR (OR AFFIRM) THAT I WILL SUPPORT AND DEFEND THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES AGAINST ALL ENEMIES, FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC; THAT I WILL BEAR TRUE FAITH AND ALLEGIANCE TO THE SAME; AND THAT I WILL OBEY THE ORDERS OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES AND THE ORDERS OF THE OFFICERS APPOINTED OVER ME, ACCORDING TO REGULATIONS AND THE UNIFORM CODE OF MILITARY JUSTICE. SO HELP ME GOD."

President's Oath

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

Congressional Oath

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.

The soldier goes to jail if he doesn't live up to his oath, so why is the president or any congress person any better than our soldiers? The soldier does not swear on the Bible but Congress and the president do.

The fact that Bush lied("Shaded The Truth")to the soldiers, just like he lied to you and me, makes Bush the one who was and is in the wrong, regarding the wreckless invading and occupying Iraq. It's congress's job to protect every American from ANY criminals who commit high crimes and misdemeanors in or against our Constitution and nation. It's the soldier's job to go where the CiC sends him and if he does not do the job that he swore to do, he can and will be punished.(unless of course that soldier's daddy is GHW Bush)
