Weather question -is this still an East Pacific tropical storm

or a Northern Caribbean tropical depression. Somewhere on the US mainland is going to get some serious water.

1. The rule is, if it crosses to the other side and regenerates, it gets a new name

e.g. Tropical Depression 1 or something like that, and if it becomes a TS it gets a different name.

It usually happens the other way - From the Caribbean across Panama or the Isthmus of Tehuantepec into the Pacific.
