Does this look like an alien to you?

Over the course of three minutes or so, the footage shows a white creature with a balloon-shaped head that keeps popping up and down in a windowsill that was eight feet above the ground. The face was white, with large black eyes that seemed to blink.

"If it was a puppet, it would be a very elaborate and sophisticated puppet," said Alejandro Rojas, education director of MUFON, the Mutual UFO Network,
who spoke at the press conference.

Rojas said the video was taken July 17, 2003 in Nebraska by Stan Romanek, who set up the camera because he thought peeping Toms had been looking into his house at his two teenage daughters.

About 50 journalists were in the room for the screening, including up to 20 TV cameras. Photographers were not allowed to capture images from the footage today because experts are still reviewing it, Rojas said.

The screening, organized by Denver resident Jeff Peckman, was not open to the public.

13. Because, by some fluke of parallel evolution...
...all aliens are bipedal humanoids that metabolize oxygen. By some even bigger coincidence, they also have eyes, noses, mouths, fingers, and toes in approximately the same places we have them. I guess Nature has a pretty limited palette when comes to building critters.

32. Not so inevitable.
Edited on Fri May-30-08 04:03 PM by Kutjara
Horses and gerbils (and other mammals) all evolved from a common ancestor a few hundred million years back. Birds did the same, a few hundred million years before that. The same is true for just about every macroscopic creature on Earth. It's not surprising, therefore, that they have some similarities.

But mammals, reptiles, marsupials, and avians are only a tiny proportion of the life on Earth. Plants don't have noses and toes. Neither do many of the exotic creatures living in the deep oceans. Bacteria, which comprise the majority of Earth's non-plant biomass lack all these things. And many of them don't even respire oxygen. They're all "carbon based," but you'd be hard pressed to tell just by looking at them.

Now consider a species that has no commonality with any creature on earth. Is it likely they'd look anything like us, except by the wildest coincidence?

Anyway, we're only fixated on Carbon (and perhaps Silicon) as the "atoms of life" because we're made of carbon and think that carbon's flexible valence is necessary for the creation of complex molecules. A few scientists have speculated that, because silicon has a similar electron structure, it could also be suitable as a substrate for biology. This all strikes me as very parochial. Just because we use carbon, doesn't mean carbon is the only way to bootstrap complex chemistry.

"A few scientists have speculated that, because silicon has a similar electron structure, it could also be suitable as a substrate for biology."

A few chemistry students and sci fi authors have speculated that. Real scientists? Not so much. Carbon and silicon really aren't very similar.

63. Exactly. The idea of "silicon life"...
Edited on Fri May-30-08 04:56 PM by Kutjara
...is just a case of trying to shoehorn some of carbon's properties onto another element, in the interests of making alien creatures more "exotic." It's sort of the molecular-biological equivalent of sticking some rubber prostheses onto an actor and pretending he's from another galaxy.

I think it's highly likely that, if we do ever stumble across life in other solar systems, we'll walk straight past it without noticing, because it'll be so far outside of our frame of reference, we won't even recognize it as life. "Captain, it appears the configuration of stalagmites on this planet's surface have created sentient wind patterns." "Oh, for fuck's sake, have you been smoking that Vulcan Gold again, Spock?"

I only see the still photo. The only video of is of this guy, Jeff Peckman, yacking at a press conference.
The story seems to indicate that they're keeping the video close to the vest other than showing part of it at this presser.

"A documentary is in production that will include much more of the videotape and other evidence, he says. It is due to be released later this year."

Oh, and hey, dude... If I thought someone was trying to peep at my daughters, I would sneak or run out there with a baseball bat. Or install some motion detector lights. Or call the cops. Or all of the above. Setting up a camcorder would be low on my list.

31. Not that I am being crappy here...
I don't know if there is anything else out there and I will admit that its a fascinating possibility that we could find other life forms on other planets. Even different solar systems. My point with the video is this.

Why would such highly evolved creatures peer through a window like a peeping tom when they could travel through space and time? If it was a possibility to take anyone at anytime to a ship or another location why would this one just choose to check them out like that? Their GPS was down? Teenage alien rebellion?

I do think that there are things we don't understand and that we might or may never scientifically be able to explain them. But sometimes it gets silly. The truth is out there.:wow:

One would think that aliens capable of traveling billions of miles wouldn't need to physically peer through windows... but this awesome video proves they do! Sure, they may have super-fandango gadgets that let them remotely image the insides of buildings... but why bother? Just look through the dang window! An elegant, low-tech solution that even "advanced" aliens appreciate!

45. I head some of the interview with the guy who filmed it
I was up late with half an ear listening to Coast to Coast while I was browsing DU.

To answer some of the questions I have heard in this thread, I can answer a few...

Yes, it is infrared film.

The window is 8 feet off the ground. The thing he saw was only 4 ft tall. He did not know how it managed to peep in the window.

The peeping had occurred on another night, and the father had run outside to confront the person. He saw the "thing" (just reporting what I heard), running off in more of a toe to heel type fashion.

The guy who filmed it has already been beaten up and has received death threats. He was not going to be at the unveiling.

79. Does anyone else remember the Fawlty Towers episode
where Basil is trying to catch a rock star smuggling girls into his room, puts up a ladder, and ends up in the window looking at two elderly persons undressing? And they turn around and see him? One of the funniest moments in television history...
