Back in 1997, Mark Penn ran a poll. Results were that Dems wanted privatization
An August 1997 survey by Clinton pollster Mark Penn found that 73 percent of Democratic voters favored some form of privatization, and support was especially strong among younger workers.

Even back then Mark Penn was up to his usual tricks. The self same tricks which sank Hillary's campaign this time around. Making the poll results equal to whatever policy Penn supported.

The full story at the link is Steven Gillon's account of how Bill Clinton and Gingrich worked together on a plan to "reform" social security. Those efforts which later got sidelined by the Monica story.

1. I suspect the results were as valid as
anything Penn has done.

My observations of the younger members of my family, that while Progressive, they have great (I think undue) faith in the capitalist system to diminish governmental "confiscation" of our money via taxes.

The truth will out eventually that all of the Rethug privatization efforts have cost the taxpayers MORE than having non-partisan civil servants execute said duties.

3. If SS were "privatized" into the stock market...
how long do you think it would last before market manipulations wiped it out?

It would be Enron, the dot.com bubble and the Great Depression all rolled into one.

2. Mark Penn suffers from class bias. He makes millions. Of course he'd want to cut taxes for the rich.
The usual way to cut taxes for the rich is to push privatization. With fewer programs run by the government, of course his tax bill would be lower. Of course, it subsumes everyone else's interests to the interest of the bottom line of some corporation that was lucky enough to get a piece of the former government program.

He's a lost cause.
