Obama backs Lieberman into a corner...
June 6, 2008 -- WASHINGTON - An emboldened Barack Obama browbeat Sen. Joe Lieberman on the Senate floor after the self-proclaimed "Independent Democrat" slammed the candidate on behalf of Republican John McCain.

Flexing his new power as the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, Obama greeted Lieberman, a prominent McCain backer, on the Senate floor Wednesday - then promptly led him by the hand to a back corner to give him a talking-to.

"He had him pinned against the wall," said one Senate aide who saw the tete-a-tete.

Obama leaned in closely during an animated conversation that lasted several minutes.

At one point, Obama pointed up at reporters gathered in the press gallery to observe the scene.

But the conversation ended amicably enough, with the senators patting each other on the back, according to the newspaper Roll Call.

"It was a very friendly and cordial conversation that was absolutely nonconfrontational," said Marshall Wittman, a Lieberman spokesman.

Yeah saw this a couple posted yesterday
It was apparently non-confrontational (though Lieberman's balls are currently sitting in a jar on Obama's desk).

3. Well, I found this interesting article...
While a Lieberman spokesman called the conversation Wednesday "cordial and friendly" and an Obama spokesman called it "private and friendly," sources told ABC News that Obama told his colleague he had gone too far in criticizing him.

"It's one thing to support McCain, but many think Uncle Joe has gone too far," a Democratic source told ABC.

Obama, the junior senator from Illinois, supported Lieberman in the 2006 primary and stayed out of his race with the Democratic candidate, Ned Lamont.

Seems to me Obama was telling Lieberman to STFU. He helped Lieberman by staying out of the 2006 race. Lieberman may want a favor down the road. Just some uneducated speculation on my part.

6. Obama was probably reminding Lieberman that if he continues to act like a neocon republican
and speak like a neocon republican and take sides with the neocon republicans .. he will soon be perceived as a neocon republican and will no doubt forfeit his 'right' to caucus with the Dems.. and that means no more leadership roles on committees..

I think it was just a little instant oversight..Obama style

and long over due with Joe

5. I really like Obama's style.....
I think he can shame you better than a Jewish mother into doing the right thing. And if he is really mad???? I bet he can verbally slit your throat so smoothly you never know it until your head falls off.

In all this long tedious campaign, most of the mistakes or gaffs have not been of his doing but from other. I think that if folks can look past the fact that he is black and represents a real change....he's a shoe in.

Gawd I love this story. No matter what the words were, the message was: Listen up Joe you little weasel fucker...
Got his street up.
A little bit of the "street" in him that will always be there. Depending how and where you grew up, you'll know what that means.
I trust Barack unconditionally to negotiate and deal with the baddest asses this world has to offer up. :smoke:
