Are DUers watching coverage of Iowa
Edited on Mon Jun-16-08 09:26 PM by malaise
People are pissed that they can't get back in their homes. It's going to get ugly there.
They're treating people the way they treated the people of NOLA.

Oops - on CNN

add.

1. While that ratbastard prances around Europe
Hard to believe, isn't it, that something like this - first Katrina, now Iowa - can happen twice and Fuckface ignores these tragedies both times.

A responsible President would have cut short his trip and come right home. Imagine what an impact that would have had on everyone!

Who knows what he does. He's mentally challenged in so many ways.

You think he was trying to show Obama that he, too, had court moves?

Moran, indeed. He's a plain old embarrassment to us all.

13. Those are house-boats.
They broke free from a marina about two miles upstream.

most houses wouldn't stay so pristine if swept off their foundations.

and not too many off them float.

18. They're just houses built on platforms that are just floated with
multiple barrels underneath the platform - see all of those blue barrels floating against the bridge? Those came from the houseboats that got smashed into pieces after hitting the bridge...

20. Most of those were houseboats that broke loose from their moorings
Edited on Mon Jun-16-08 11:47 PM by Common Sense Party
at Ellis Park. They jammed up against the bridge for a few days, and I guess the bridge finally gave way yesterday.

10. People here in Indianapolis were told several days ago
that they won't be allowed back into their tornado damaged apartments ever again. It didn't involve nearly as many as the flooding in Iowa has, but there was no ugliness...just sadness that they could not retrieve any possessions at all. And then, it started to rain.

Maybe the good people of Iowa won't get ugly either.

17. I hope they won't
too.

I can understand their frustration- and desperation. I don't think the police WANT to keep people from their homes- I think they are doing what they think is best- wanting to keep them safe- I'd hate to be in either spot.

There was an incredible flood here in NH in 2005- no where near the number of homes involved- but four people were killed, 36 homes destroyed. In 30 hours, 12 inches of rain fell. Experts said the flood was a once-in-500-years event.

There is a bridge in our town that is still not rebuilt from that flood.

There is so much natural 'terror' in life- If we'd only invest in helping each other cope with this- rather than running around the world looking to stir things up.?

I sure hope the weather settles down for everyone.

peace~

22. Many of the police and emergency crews LIVE in the affected
area as well. The police DON'T want to keep people from their homes, but they also CAN'T allow people to go headlong into a dangerous, toxic area, either.

14. More information on why they can't go to their homes right now
<snip>
The larger area, about 1,300 city blocks or about 10 square miles, has been divided into 11 “sectors,” and “strike teams” have been entering them, going property to property, to determine which are safe.

On Monday, though, no one was being permitted even into properties that had found to be safe, Koch said.

He singled out one incident in which a strike team member Sunday fell into a sink hole with nine feet of water in it where a home’s basement wall had collapsed. The victim was pulled out, “decontaminated” at the scene and taken to the hospital for checking. He was uninjured, Koch said.

Sink holes, collapsed basement walls, gas leaks and open manholes were among the reasons that people were going to be kept out away from their properties at least on Monday, Koch said.

19. There's a blurb about Mississippi being next on the yahoo home page...
They are expecting a 26 foot rise that many fear
will know out their levees...
And Bush continues to prance about the world stage
as though all were hunky dory.

I'm afraid we are just beginning to see the devastation.

21. Yes. It's understandable that residents are frustrated and want
to return to survey the damage, but at the same time, emergency crews really don't need to chase after thousands of people who might slip into sinkholes or blow something up.

And that water is one toxic stew. When you consider all the oil, gasoline, chemicals, fertilizers, raw sewage, animal feces, fertilizer and who knows what else is in that muck. People shouldn't be going back into homes that are still half-filled with that stuff.

I'm sure it's already gotten "ugly" in the shelters by now though.
