Obama will win, and here's how I know
I visit a few hunting forums, this one is dominated by guys like me from out west. This post should have been in the political area, but got put in big game hunting. Take a minute to see how the hunting public is reacting to Obama. Very interesting read. I have never seen this kind of reaciton on a hunting site before. It's 50/50, and lots of these guys tend to be die hard republicans. The propoganda aint working and the Barrack's gonna steal your gun mantra is not sticking either. Granted, only 10% of the population hunt, but if we can split this vote, I think its indicative of where we are going.

http://www.hunting.net/forum/tm.aspx?m=2844298

Please, don't post any anti-hunting stuff there. Taking these voters is what is going to enable Barrack to win New Mexico and Colorado and help us sweep a ton of Senate seats.

1. A big surprise
Thanks for posting this. I'd never have thought that Obama would have any support among hunters. Maybe that's just a dumb bias on my part. But this is a real surprise, and a very pleasant one.

And it's only June. Gonna be fun to see what happens.

Welcome to DU, WindRiverMan. You're off to a grand start, I'd say ....................

6. me either Skittles,
We'll take the votes though.

I'm a Vet who does not own any guns and I bet that puts me in the minority but I don't care cause I seen what guns can do in the wrong hands under the wrong circumstances for the wrong reasons. I am all for gun owner rights, I just don't want any myself.

4. I think this is right- my brother in law is a hunter ...
and he has NEVER, EVER said he would vote for a Democrat...until this year. He told my sister he is voting for Obama. We thought hell had frozen over or something.

7. welcome windriverman...and it may surprise you that every now and then a gun control
poll gets thrown up here at DU and gun rights fair far better than one would think they would. lots of good dems in my family who grew up on working ranches w guns and rifles, and have beloved gun collections handed down through the generations.

9. That is a good sign.
I had a conversation with a guy a couple weeks ago about the election and this was one of his concerns about voting for Obama. I told I was defenitely voting for Obama and I was a gun owner(I own several). I told him the "Democrats are gunna tak yer guns" was a big bullshit story to scare gun owners from voting for Obama.

11. Well, here any judge can decide to take your guns
My dh has a friend at his pistol club who collects historical and mostly Western pistols. His house was broken into and a couple of his guns were stolen. Like a good citizen he calls the police and reports the theft. The judge rescinds his pistol permit on the grounds that he did not keep them secure enough and the police come and take the rest of his guns. Now he has to hire an attorney for being robbed.

Great 2nd amendment rights, can they lock down freedom of speech as easy as this?

17. I think the repugs have with "free speech zones".
As for your friend that really sucks about what happened to him, but I pretty sure BO didn't have anything to do with it. It sounds more like a local government problem.

19. Strange, I've never heard of this.
What is the state statute they are using to justify this, do you have link to it anywhere? Thanks.

21. On your permit there is a warning
Pistol Permit FAQS

Q - When can a licensing officer revoke a pistol permit?

The New York State Penal Law provides a number of instances which mandate the automatic revocation of a pistol permit, such as conviction for a felony-level crime or a serious offense.

The law also provides for the cancellation of a license at any time by a judge or justice of a court of record who decides that a licensee is no longer fit to possess firearms.

22. WOW! That is a extremely vague law.
I going to go out on limb here and say they do not have a guideline that states what "no longer fit" means.
Thanks for the information, I will file this under Important.

12. I went to the politics forum on that site:

I don't know about you, but I cant stand the idea of electing a closet-Muslim to be president. That, and that nasty Christian church he was a member of for 20 years.

15. Most of the gys who post in the politics section on these sites
are way, way, way, righties, not even worth reading. Most of them think Rush Limbaugh is too liberal. That is why I thought the post in the big game section where the more normal people are was pretty intersting.

13. Very interesting...I read through the entire thread.
Some of the replies were the typical RW knuckledragger stuff, of course, but some of them were surprisingly enlightened. I guess it really is true that you can't fool all the people all the time--not even with the help of the corporate media.

Thanks for posting the link. It's a unique perspective on the upcoming election for this lefty blog addict, one I haven't seen before.

14. The Right does not want McCain to win because
with the Us going down the toliet they need a fall guy for the next generation: Enter Obama.

The Chicken hawk Warmongers have been revving the military into the Red for the past 6 years and with the Surge they are wearing it out so, when the next President has to withdrawl troops from Iraq and the country goes down the shitter again, well the Right will point and proclaim "The closet muslim just lost us IRaq, we were right there one more jot and tittle and the US could have achieved an orgasmic Bush-led victory but the Defeat-o-crats did it again.

Additionally, fuel costs are never coming down and likely will go up a dollar a year for a while perhaps stablizing around 10-12 a gallon for motor fuel and who knows what for heating oil.

Food prices aren't going to get better, medical costs will continue to rise, the Boomers are going to start collecting SS, terrorism can't be beaten (and bush's efforts merely create the next generation), airlines and car manufactuers are going to go out of business

so, who do you think is going to want to take the blame the Right? No they will use Obama's presidency to castigate Democrats for the Millenial Generation.

16. If McCain can't get 90% of this vote, he should pack it in
Hunters voting Republican is almost as reliable a demographic as Fox News viewers voting Republican...

However, the RW slime machine is only just getting geared up - and, I'm guessing a lot of this 50-50 crowd will end up holding their noses & voting McCain as the lesser of two evils.
