Ross Perot wants more focus on national debt (CNN)
From Jason Carroll
CNN

(CNN) -- Ross Perot is jumping back into the political fray, this time with a stern warning that the country better start paying attention to the national debt.

The former presidential candidate has reemerged with a Web site spotlighting the soaring budget deficit: more than $9.3 trillion and growing.

"We live in the greatest country in the history of man. We've been so successful for so long that we now take our success for granted," Perot says in a video posted on PerotCharts.com.

"Not since the Great Depression have we seen an economic crisis of the magnitude that we are facing today," he says.

He says the purpose of the site, which is not affiliated with any political party, is "to provide accurate information to every citizen about the serious economic problems facing our country."

1. Obama is for "pay as you go"
whereas McCain has stated that he will keep the Bush tax cuts even if it means a budget deficit increasing our national debt even more.

4. One reason the budget deficit is so high is because of the offshoring of jobs.
Unemployed people do not pay taxes. Underemployed people pay less taxes.

The U.S. trade deficit is huge. That means that we go deeper into debt every time we import goods from abroad. The trade deficit results in the devaluation of the dollar. That results in our paying more for what we import because of the "weaker" dollar.

The right wing claims that the weaker dollar is good since it makes our goods cheaper for foreigners to buy so that increases exports. However, since we manufacturer so few products that other countries couldn't make more cheaply themselves, how does this help most Americans? It doesn't.

In fact, mainly military hardware manufacturers are doing well under these conditions.

Another problem with the economy is that the corporate executives are selling these American corporations to foreign companies. These sellouts make huge profits for the insiders who set up these deals. The employees lose their jobs in the aftermath as the buyer typically fires a lot of people to pay for the buyout.

If Mr. Perot doesn't mention the loss of jobs in this country, he is ignoring a large part of the economic problems this country is facing, and the slippery slope this country is sliding down toward economic collapse.
