Beginning July 1, the Georgia town of Holly Springs, near the city of Atlanta, will add a surcharge of 12 dollars for each moving violation as a means to avert a budget deficit brought on by high fuel prices.

"It's a creative and innovative idea of our police chief," said Holly CothranDrake, spokeswoman of the city administration which on Wednesday received queries from several American municipalities that are considering similar measures, including Florida's Key West and California's Los Angeles County.

2. This just gives further credence to the notion that traffic law enforcement being about "safety"

is a lie, instead of what it's actually become: revenue enhancement.

Cops will be looking for ways/places to levy these "fuel surcharges..."

3. I noticed that
another dollar clicked onto the meter after my cab driver had pulled it down. I asked him what that was for. "Fuel surcharge," he said, and I could not argue with him.

Ripple effect is everywhere. And we're just starting to see it.

4. Key West and Los Angeles? Hmmmm.
1) No one drives in Key West

2) Given traffic, it's impossible to speed in L.A.

:silly:

Apparently you've never driven through L.A. during one of those "Everybody Doing 90 But Freeway Still Somehow Conjested" rolling traffic jams.
