i suggest we let our senators know our distaste for what the house just passed and let them know our ire will turn on them.....

1. We don't have a majority. We have a tie plus LIEberman. It's worth trying...
... but we're pretty much fucked.

9. Doesn't the bill need cloture?
Then we only need 40 votes to keep it from being voted on. This is how the GOP plays the game, will we? Do we even have 40 no's?

17. 41 - and they can be 'nos" or "not Voting"
We need to keep them from 60.

That said given the last result - we likely don't have 41 - I think it was 68 who actually voted FOR it last time including Dem favorite, Senator Webb.

12. I just e-mailed my rep:
(I e-mailed and called him yesterday, to no avail)

I participate on a major progressive blog, and I can't emphasize strongly enough how disappointed we are in our representatives who supported this latest FISA gift to the Bush administration.

Can you offer us a reasonable explanation as to why you thought it was okay to support this?

15. Basically...
...half the Dems in the House voted for, the other half voted against.

What passed it was the full support by the GOP.

I'm hoping, he can get the Senate Democrats to act like Representatives to We the People.

7. Our best bet is to have someone filibuster and kill the bill.
Edited on Fri Jun-20-08 12:32 PM by SoonerPride
If the senate votes to override a filibuster on this POS while being unable to override filibusters on every other fucking bill before them, it is time to move out of this country.

19. Filibustering needs 41 people to NOT vote for cloture
Last time about 68 Senators voted for the bill. I doubt they will change.

The difference on the other filibusters is that they are unified Republican filibusters of Democratic legislation. This would be a good Democratic filibuster of a Republican/Democratic "compromise".

And yes, it is compromising - very compromising in the negative sense of the word - they are compromising the Constitution and their integrity.

50 is not a majority.

"Well, you know what I mean..." is not an adequate response.

22. 19 shitbags
The DLC has a bigger presence in the senate than you think

But you are right....the DLC are effectively Republicans, allowing EVERY single Bush proposal to go through, no matter how anti-democratic and anti-american.

The DLC must be removed.
The Blue Dogd must be removed.

If they are allowed to stay, NOTHING will change....the pukes will still be in charge. What else do you think the DLC is there for? They are there for a fourth reich...and it is working out well for them, shitty for us.

20. Lieberman supported it last time
Edited on Fri Jun-20-08 01:53 PM by Lone_Star_Dem
Along with (I think) 18 other Democratic Senators. I'd suggest beginning with the Senators who supported it before and including the ones who voted against it as they may well change their positions this round.

Edited to add link to previous roll call:

21. If Reid weren't a corporate lackey, it might be possible to stop it in the Senate.
Having Reid at the point is like having a member of the other hockey team playing goalie for you. Know what I mean? He might hustle occasionally when it doesn't actually matter, but you can be certain that he'll get out of the way and let the puck through when it *does* matter.

23. Oh, sure. They are the goof-offs who came up with this crummy bill
that the House refused to back in March. But they are our only hope. I notice that Obama did not stand tall against the immunity and Bush. Great---NOT!
