Our Party and our Leaders sure know how to disappoint.
Edited on Fri Jun-20-08 04:26 PM by kentuck
Pelosi and Stoyer and about 103 other Democrats voted to sacrifice the 4th Amendment to our Constitution and the rule of law in a "fair compromise" they worked out with the Republicans. Yep, we got screwed on that deal. Very disappointing.

Then our hero, Barack Obama, releases a press statement saying that he will support the FISA bill passed by the Congress under the leadership of Pelosi and Stoyer. He did say that he would try to get the retroactive immunity for the telecoms removed from the bill. He did not say whether or not he would vote for the bill anyway if the retroactive immunity was not removed? Very, very disappointing.

1. They get your hopes up by talking tough but when
push comes to shove, they just roll over and beg for a belly scratch.

2. I can't say I'm disappointed
because that implies that I expected better from them. Unfortunately, their track record makes this all too predictable.

3. Effective politics is all about compromise and forming coalitions
But in the case of our current Democratic leadership, it stinks more of capitulation and surrender. It should be the Republicans who have to make the tougher decisions to compromise, not us. What was the compromise here, since the telecoms got everything they wanted?

4. OUR FREEDOMS AND THE RULE OF LAW ARE NON-NEGOTIABLE !!
We should never put those on the table to be negotiated. Never.

There can be no feelings of disappointment when one realizes there was no intention to serve We The People's interests to begin with.

No disappointment when understanding that all along it was Complicity.

You can count on the retroactivity of the bill not to be removed.

And whatever the Hero has promised to do? Mere pandering to The Rabble in the interests of good theater and the illusory appearance of a representative government.

What I feel is anger and resolve.

There is no Right and Left for me any longer.

It is US and THEM.

We are on our own.

8. Anytime they sit down to negotiate with the Republicans...
we know we are going to get screwed. Why can't they simply refuse to sit down?

It's looking like the two political parties have way more in common with each other than they do with the people they serve.

10. Pull up a chair. Have a seat. Let me introduce you to some of
my friends.

Over in that corner; those are the people who busted their asses and got "Don't ask, don't tell" for their efforts. The Defense of Marriage Act was just icing on the cake for "them."

In that corner, those are the women who were promised they'd protect their rights to their own bodies "just as soon as we're in charge." Sorry if they look a little bedraggled. They have to travel many miles to access that dwindling right to their bodies.

Over in that corner, well, those are people who work very hard for their living. They were told that outsourcing their jobs was good for the economy - in the long run - and that all they had to do was re-train and they'd be good as gold. Well, NAFTA didn't work quite as advertised. But hey, just as soon as "we" get back into power, boy howdy, you better believe...

See that group over there? Those are the women who are no longer able to tend to their children. You'll notice more "white" faces than "black," though it was sold as though it was all about "black" "welfare queens." Yeah, they look a bit frazzled. They've each had a tough day trying to work one or two or even more jobs per day. Fortunately, the rest of us can judge them as "bad parents" since keeping a roof over their head doesn't give them much time to parent. But hey, they're just a bunch of whiney-assed women who don't know the value of "hard werk."

If we all look a little tired and strained, please excuse us. We've danced this dance before and we're just plum' tucker'd out.

There's coffee and some fruit and doughnuts over on that table. It's got plenty 'o room now that impeachment's moved off it.

Kick back. "Set" a spell and relax. I'll introduce you to the rest of the crowd after a short while.

And don't you worry one bit. "They'll" take care of us, just as soon as they're back in power.

13. Thank you, kentuck. I'm glad you appreciate it.
I'm glad you consider it worthy. :D

Maybe some day, when I get all the players in place, I can post it as its own thread. Right now, I left out way too many people standing by the roadside, waiting for the Democrats to come to their rescue. It would be an insult to post without mention of those souls. In my opinion. :)

Post in GD-Presidential? The "kinder, gentler" GD-Primaries? Oof. Not enough hours in the day or valium in the universe.

Geez, I thought you liked my post. :D

In all seriousness, I actually try to create well-thought-out posts before I create a thread. The one to which you responded was "off the cuff" rather than thoughtfully composed. Yeah, it's weird, I know. As am I.

:hi:

edit to add: if you see anything worthwhile in my post, please, take it, make it your own. I have no ownership of a truth shared by many.
