This one is too important. My comment:

As our infrastructure creaks and fails around us and our national coffers are stripped bare to feed the war beast, we strain under crushing debt with a failing economy, yet our government repeatedly tells us to fear the terrorist bogeyman. I don't see terrorists as the most pressing threat to our security; the majority of that threat is within our government itself. That same government willfully destroyed the backbone of our Middle East intelligence resources and has made little to no effort in finding those actually responsible for attacking us in 2001. Under Bush and Cheney, we have been lied into a war of fortune, have seen other human beings illegally detained and tortured in our names, and in breach of the 4th Amendment we have been put under threat of surveillance as though we the American citizens are presumed guilty rather than innocent.

At least there is one Senator willing to uphold his oath to "support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign _and domestic_." Thank you, Senator Kucinich. If only all Congressional representatives had your principle and courage.

Kucinich is a CONGRESSMAN ( Representative to the House of Representatives; NOT A SENATOR!
Impeachment starts and is conducted in the House! It is then voted on in the Senate. This is why Bill Clinton was (Not) impeached. After all the hearings dragging his dirty laundry through the public eyes..........and the verdict was guilty, the Senate voted NOT to impeach him.
That might very well happen again given that the Senate is so tenuously balanced on Liarman's pinhead! However, Bush/CHeney's laundry keeps getting white washed by the MSM, so a lot of 'AIRING" in public would enlighten those citizens who still need it.
Otherwise a well expressed statement. I like the phrase "war of fortune"

Here is my letter:

My Congressman in Nick Lampson. I haven't heard a peep out of him except for a form letter I received after I mailed him a hand written letter demanding that he support impeachment. He won our district (formerly Tom Delay's) and hasn't done anything as far as I can tell. I will vote for every Democrat on my ballot, but I want to see some action from my congressman. I want to see some balls. Even if the senate can't convict these two criminals, I'd still like to see an impeachment. I want to see hearings and I want to see lengthy testimony from witnesses under oath about the firings of US attorney's, Valerie Plame, illegal wiretaps, election fraud, lies for war, the Enron loophole and oil speculators, torture, and the homicide of detainees (war crimes).

Have the hearings. There is no need for futher investigation, the crimes have been documented. Why is impeachment important now, less than 6 months before the election? Before the Congress could even throw a hearing together, we will have a new president.

It would be good to let future administrations know that they can't get away with this shit. Also there's the slim possibilty that this would take up enough of their time that they wouldn't be able to bomb Iran.

But I am questioning the practicalities here. Congress goes on summer recess soon, then there are the conventions. Serious legislation like impeachment would not really be addressed until mid-September, and within 6 weeks of that time, the election will have happened. November and early December are the lamest of lame duck periods and I can't see anyone in their right mind impeaching a president who will be out of their hair in a few weeks. Congress is in recess again by mid-December. Then, the inauguration.


I don't think an impeachment, threat of impeachment or even label of impeachment will be helpful at all strategically, even to stop an impending war with Iran. The time to impeach this president was at the beginning of the second term, when there was time for investigation, evidence collection, and hearings.

Impeachment is not the way to punish this president anymore. Insuring that he stands trial in front of the Hague for war crimes would be.
