With the SC gun decision, will the crooks in DC run out and buy handguns now?
Or did they already have them?

1. Do you mean the gang-bangers or politicians?

2. Most likely the law abiding citizens who were really pushing for this to pass will
now legally go buy what they want. The ones who already have them didn't care about the decision and still don't care. They're not about to go buy one from a ligitimate dealer because it would have to be registered to them, and they sure don't want THAT!

4. Why does it have to be registered if we have the right to have them?
Rights are different from privileges.

8. The laws of purchasing a hand gun have not been affected by this ruling.
Justice Scalia’s opinion stressed that the Court was not casting doubt on long-standing bans on carrying a concealed gun or on gun possession by felons or the mentally retarded, on laws barring guns from schools or government buildings, and laws putting conditions on gun sales.

3. The Other Question...
Will DC be forced to permit gun dealers from operating within city limits. And, IMHO, there are plenty of other constitutional gun laws on the books that will still enable DC police to go after illegal guns and gun owners.

I grew up near Morton Grove, Illinois...one of the first towns to enact a gun ban in the 80's. Everyone in the town knew the law was non-sensical as one could easily drive 5 minutes to an adjacent suburb and buy a gun. The ban was more a PR stunt for the town and helped in luring more upscale people into buying into the area. The concept of the ban was pitched that the town was safer even though I doubt there was ever a home raided or people purposely stopped...in fact I knew several people in that town who kept their guns after the ban went into effect and the cops knew it.

The problem hasn't been in who has the guns, but how they get them.

5. The crooks already have them
The only difference for them is they will have to check more carefully to make sure the houses they break into aren't occupied.

7. I worked with a guy from India where they have tough gun control laws.
I asked him who has firearms in India. He laughed and said only the police, the military, & the criminals.
