Cytokine Storm
Those of you who have studied Gaia Theory will have an appreciation of the awesome and self-regulating complexity of our Earth-organism, and its evolved ability to enable and encourage staggering diversity and evolution while optimizing both the quantum and well-being of all-life-on-Earth.

Since I got sick last summer, I have studied the workings of the human body enough to appreciate that it is, in many ways, an equally awesome, self-regulating and complex organism, designed to advance and sustain its constituent organisms in a state of evolving and resilient well-being.

And I'm becoming convinced that what ails our planet and what ails our bodies is the same thing: poisoning by massive amounts of toxins produced by irresponsible people and corporations. But because our planet and our bodies are so complex, we will never be able to prove it to the satisfaction of our shoddy legal and political systems, which are designed to protect the perpetrators of this poisoning.

4. This is our healthcare crisis
too many people are sick. The fault for much of it can be placed of the feet of the huge corporations who think that if their products cause cancer, the answer is to buy a cancer pharmaceutical company.
Sometimes they even start a pink ribbon campaign and have women who have already endured the treatment for cancer, walk 60 miles so they can be martyrs for the polluting company.

This was a very succinct article - one worth saving.

So it won't be missed. And yes this IS the obesity epidemic the health care crisis all of it.
There are a few interesting new theories out about obesity that point to obesity as being an inflammatory disease, and possibly an imbalance of gut flora... two things exposure to pollution can wreak havoc upon.

7. pleased to give this the fifth recommendation . . . what people don't realize -- . . .
Edited on Wed Mar-07-07 03:01 AM by OneBlueSky
or don't want to face -- is the immense magnitude of the crises facing the human race -- and the planet -- today . . .

every day we hear bits and pieces, but it's hard (if not impossible) to wrap one's brain around all of the interconnections and grasp the big picture . . . just enumerating the symptoms of environmental, social, cultural and economic collapse -- from wars to honey bees -- would take pages upon pages upon pages, and calculating the connections and the synergies would take a roomful of powerful computers and an army of highly skilled programmers . . .

I have serious doubts that the human race is capable of dealing with the kind of collapse that is occuring all around us . . . I'm damned sure that our government is incapable of meaningful action -- particularly since meaningful action would necessarily impact corporate profits in a very negative fashion . . . and, as we all know, its the corporations who call the shots on all of the big issues . . .

is there a solution? . . . is there even hope? . . . each night I pray for a new enlightenment, a new evolutionary step where humans value cooperation, peace, and love more than competition, war and destruction . . . and for leaders who can articulate those values in ways that people will understand and respond to . . .

but I'm not optimistic -- and every day I'm becoming less and less hopeful . . .

9. It isn't just physical pollution that you can touch, smell, see. It's also the stuff polluting
our mind, psyche and spirit. Although suggesting that is anathema to many DU'ers.
