LMFAO! The lead story on FoxNoise.com ...
The death of Captain America! Yup, a fucking comic book character is going to be gunned down in an upcoming issue. The highest ranking White House official to be convicted since Iran-Contra? Nowhere to be found. I\'ve had so much fairness and balance, I think I need to go shower with Clorox.

There is talk of a Captain America movie in the works. I wonder if 20th Century Fox is the studio. That would sure explain it.

Oops - add on edit - Paramount seems to be the studio. So disregard the above.

In fact, he survives but is paralyzed from the waist down. He still controls his vast pornography empire.

7. it's par for the course, really. Cap was a Nationalistic Icon in many ways
(I don't necessarily mean that in a bad way), and his death will probably be blamed on the ACLU or Mexican gaytheists or something.

17. what might happen
is that Hawkeye will pick up the mantle of CA - he's butted heads with CA so many times in the past, this might affect him psychologically, and he'll put on the mask and pick up the shield to keep the symbol alive (he was trained by CA, after all ...)

23. I'm not a reader of the comic, but
to quote Dr. Stephen Tyrone Colbert: "that is the most poetic $%@!ing thing I've ever heard."

That being said, it could symbolize pretty much anything, out of context. Hopefully it's something along the lines of the courts having failed America, but yeah, it could be neo-con porn for all I know.

24. Captain America has never been a really big seller
Edited on Wed Mar-07-07 03:29 PM by TlalocW
He's too perfect like Superman before DC powered him down to make him more interesting in the mid-80s. Cap will have very deep conversations with himself while in the midst of fighting 20 guys.

This link is a parody of the, "Civil War," storyline that's been going on in Marvel where a fight between heroes and villains results in the deaths of several hundred people so the government wants to register and unmask all the heroes, and the hero community is divided into two camps - those who support the government and those who don't. Captain America doesn't support it (which actually isn't surprising having read his comics in the 90s).

Basically, this is the first comic with all the dialog replaced by some internet joker scamps. Scroll down to the panel where there's a big speech balloon that says, "TRANQUILIZERS NOW!" for a more outrageous example of a Captain America fight.

http://mightygodking.livejournal.com/292662.html

Oh, and scroll down even further for how the Bush administration handles it - W. of course thinks it's a good excuse for more tax cuts.

25. I used to read a lot of comics in the 80s and 90s including Captain America
And I don't think Fox would like that Captain America as he came off pretty liberal. Time to switch into comic book memory time...

One large storyline dealt with his giving up his uniform because the government decided they owned the uniform, shield, and image of Captain America since the military created him in the 1940s. They wanted Cap to work exclusively for the government, and he refused, and he was relieved of duty and forbidden to enter into superhero'ing again by putting on any costume that was red, white, and blue, so he made an almost duplicate of the Captain America costume that was red, white, and black with an off-center star and called himself, "The Captain." Meanwhile he was replaced by a super-right nutjob called the Super Patriot who was happy to wear the Cap America costume and suck up to the government. He started going crazy and killing people though. In the end, it was found out that it was all orchestrated by the Red Skull to ruin Captain America's image.

Later on, he was branded a traitor again because the Red Skull (who had put his mind into a clone of Cap's body) had rescued Captain America from death by giving him a blood transfusion (Cap's super-soldier-serum-body was breaking down) in turn for his help against some mutual enemies so it looked like the Skull and Cap were in cahoots. He was eventually pardoned again - this time by Bill Clinton, who asked and got permission from Cap to put on his shield.

And once during a team-up with Spider-Man, Spidey asked if Cap's wearing of his outfit didn't violate some sort of anti-desecration laws, and Cap's answer was basically that he thought those were stupid.

Of course, there were times when he came off as Mister Pure like when he lectured a super-villainess who also worked as a stripper or kept his eyes covered when a stag film was shown at Rick Jones' bachelor party.

Comic books are worse than soap operas in terms of people coming back from the dead. Go read the Dark Phoenix saga from X-Men for an example - Jean Gray dies, resurrects, turns into an evil alter-ego (Dark Phoenix,) gets killed again, then Jean Gray comes back as a clone...

Days of Our Lives has got nothing on comics.
