Teen shoots girl, self at Mich. school
A teenager shot his former girlfriend four times outside her high school, then killed himself in one of two fatal U.S. school shootings Wednesday, authorities said.

Jessica Forsyth, 17, was taken to Hurley Medical Center in Flint, where she was in serious but stable condition, hospital spokeswoman Christie White said Wednesday afternoon.

Midland Police Chief James St. Louis said the gunman died in the parking lot.

It appears that over 90% of the victims of school shootings since 2006 have been girls.

Why is this?

1. Why is this?
There's no problem here. There's no violence against women. Don't ask that question. Why do you hate men? Men die from guns too, how come nobody's asking about the men? :sarcasm:

You're asking a question that has brought out the worst in DUers. Violence against women is not a topic that's discussed openly here. Earlier discussions have been ugly, to put it mildly.

2. At Least He Had Good Aim For Himself
I know there are lots of DUers against the death penalty, so it's nice he saved us that debate by killing himself.

Hopefully the girl he shot will live through this.

5. Posts 1 and 2 are really taking the offensive on this one.
Wouldn't want this to degenerate into a discussion of school violence, guns, and the pressures on young people.

Preemptive attacks put everyone on their heals and portrays us as domestic violence supporters and wimpy death penalty opponents. :banghead:

I'm learning more about taking control of threads and putting the "proper" spin on them.

12. Why Is That?
He's an upstanding young teenager?

He had a great future ahead of him?

The guy is not even 18, and he's putting multiple bullets into an ex-girlfriend in front of her school?

What possible good could come of this guy's life, and why should I care if he's around to see it?

And I don't care what problems he does or doesn't have, if this is his mentality at the age of 17, I'd hate to see what he'd be capable of in a few years when he's possibly able to inflict more damage on others.

4. Another tribute to the NRA and gun advocates.
If the guns were unavailable, the impetus to commit such a crime is dramatically reduced.

So sad for all those involved.

6. Because as we all know...
all firearms related crimes and tragedies are the fault of the NRA and gun RKBA advocates.

7. Statistically that could be due to the Amish shooting
Where the shooter purposely singled out the girls.

This is less a school shooting that a variant of domestic violence shooting - this seems an attack on that particular girl that took place at the school, rather than a general attack on the school.

11. More on the TX school suicide
http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/dn/latestnews/stories/030807dnmetstudentshooting.29e624ac.html

Greenville High School classes ended early on Wednesday after a student shot himself to death near the band hall.

The shooting took place about 7:15 a.m. in an instrument storage room off the band hall before the start of classes, Greenville school district officials said.

Superintendent Lloyd Graham said other students were in the band hall but not in the instrument room. None saw the shooting, but some heard a noise, found the student on the floor and thought he had fallen and hit his head, Mr. Graham said. An assistant principal and nurse who were summoned discovered the gunshot wound.

School officials said classes ended earlier than usual at 1:30 p.m. because many parents had already picked up their children. Parents had been given the option of taking students home earlier in the day. About 100 parents rushed to the school as word of the shooting spread, resulting in an auto accident in front of the school that sent one person to the hospital, the Greenville Herald Banner reported.
