Man says he isn't prejudiced, but his white friends worry about a "colored president"
So I get my Sunday State Journal off the porch and open it up and the headline is RACE COULD BE A FACTOR and the first four paragraphs quote a yahoo white repairman from Beaver Dam:

BEAVER DAM -- Undecided voter Allan Peck says he 's open to Barack Obama as the nation 's first African-American president -- "as long as he's not prejudiced."

Peck, a 50-year-old repairman from Beaver Dam, said the Democratic Illinois senator 's race won 't be a factor in whether he 'll vote for Obama or his Republican rival, Sen. John McCain of Arizona. Instead, he 's trying to figure out which candidate is most likely to keep his promises.

But Peck, who is white, said there 's underlying concern among some of his white friends about what an Obama presidency might mean for them.

"With a colored president, they 'll think (government) will lean more toward the colored people and we 'll be a minority, " Peck said

1. Whoa....The GOP Emotional Mind will rationalize some crap like the OP described.
Whatever happened to obsevation and History....?

Its Not fair to deny The Coloreds Turn...the Whites had the Helm all these Centuries and it wasn't all that good.

The coloreds were held back in Sports, Gov't, Corp ceilings, etc and now look....Tiger kicks ass...

Can Obama be a Tiger in Gov't?

But of Course...if given the opportunity....Vote Blue, Vote Bama...its only Fair and guess what...its for the Best.

2. We have a colored president now
He is kind of pasty white with a black heart.
It is time to try a black president with a heart of flesh.

4. is that a typo?
(for 'pasty' read 'patsy'?)

After all, wikipedia says it the best:

It is thought that the popularity of the name may have waned due to the dictionary meanings of the word "patsy" being "dupe" or "scapegoat".<4>

5. I disagree with
the "heart of flesh description. I think he has a tri-color heart. Pure red, white and blue.

11. All American is all I've heard him talk
He talks to me as an american not as the mixed race white person that I am. I'll take my chances with the goodness in Obama heart anyday over any one of them, saint raygun and all. Obama has more Pure and Honesty in his little finger than the whole lot of them do in their whole beings. Obama likes where hes at and he sees it as the American way as why he is.

3. Let's put this in a different perspective:
Well, I'm a white guy, and why should I continue to trust my fellow honkeys?

8. The Exposure Of The "Southern Coalition"
For years the GOOP covered up its racism by promoting bullshit agendas like tax cuts or gun rights or states rights or religious "freedoms"...all the while milking the racism of the various groups that made up it's "big tent". You didn't have to say it, it was assumed by all...a new version of Jim Crow. If you distrusted/hated blacks, you had a welcome home in the GOOP and over the years many were fed a litany of stereotypes and fears (by folks like Rushbo) that always reminded them about the value of that racism...and in turn how it made them "victims".

Victimization is also a big deal in the GOOP world. For people who control so much wealth and power, it's amazing how persecuted they claim to be. It's not hard to transcend from persecution to fear to hatred and then to label groups...especially minorities...as the cause for that persecution. It then seems to "square" not liking someone with a different skin color or who speaks with an accent. Real "Amuricans" didn't talk that way...you're either "with us or against us".

What Obama's campaign has done isn't make more racists, it just exposed them. The failure of the GOOP "agenda" has also helped as there's little they can run on this year...more like run from. The biggest weapon in their arsenal is fear and the race card is very much in play. You'll hear it masked in many ways in some bullshit like "reparations" (I actually had someone the other day tell me he was convinced Obama was gonna make us all give blacks 40 acres and a mule) or some other bullshit. What else do they have?

10. "we'll be a minority" - how can a majority of the population be a minority?
I knew those hoods caused brain damage.

12. Wow, I haven't heard "colored" used seriously since the early 70s.
My parents used it all the time when I was growing up in the Cleveland area, as in: "Let's go to Randall Mall instead of Severance this time. Severance is so colored now."

(with a wink to Cleveland people who know of these places ;-))
