Guess what? Batman's real identity isn't Bruce Wayne--it's GEORGE W. BUSH!!
Or so says Andrew Klavan in the Wall Street Journal...

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB121694247343482821.html?mod=opinion_main_commentaries

a snippet:

"There seems to me no question that the Batman film "The Dark Knight," currently breaking every box office record in history, is at some level a paean of praise to the fortitude and moral courage that has been shown by George W. Bush in this time of terror and war. Like W, Batman is vilified and despised for confronting terrorists in the only terms they understand. Like W, Batman sometimes has to push the boundaries of civil rights to deal with an emergency, certain that he will re-establish those boundaries when the emergency is pastl.

...

"Why is it then that left-wingers feel free to make their films direct and realistic, whereas Hollywood conservatives have to put on a mask in order to speak what they know to be the truth? Why is it, indeed, that the conservative values that power our defense -- values like morality, faith, self-sacrifice and the nobility of fighting for the right -- only appear in fantasy or comic-inspired films like "300," "Lord of the Rings," "Narnia," "Spiderman 3" and now "The Dark Knight"?

I knew you'd all just LOVE this...:eyes:

1. "conservative values" ? " values like morality, faith, self-sacrifice and the nobility of fighting
for the right"

Well, unless he means right as in right-wing, this guy needs an education. What about Grapes of Wrath? Isn't that an example of liberals showing " values like morality, faith, self-sacrifice and the nobility of fighting for the right"?

BTW - if he thinks Spiderman 3 is all about being a conservative, he's missed out on Marvel Comics storyline about registering superheroes and the Secret Invasion!

5. When Batman steps over the line to spy
Edited on Sun Jul-27-08 11:45 AM by realpolitik
he knows it, and the first thing he does is to make sure the one person he knows will destroy the capability when done is in charge of it.

Compare and contrast with GWB.

7. I think there was a comment about Bush's surveillance in Batman, but...
Edited on Sun Jul-27-08 11:49 AM by dbonds
it wasn't supporting it. The Joker made Batman cross a moral line, that's what the Joker does. Batman knew he was crossing it when he set up the surveillance and put it in the hands of someone he knew would destroy it when it was not needed. It was stated definitively that having that ability was too much power for anyone. On the flip side, Bush sets up surveillance on everyone and never turns it off and uses it for fishing for things, and very likely for political blackmail of people.

8. Here's the comment I left....
if they let it pass:
(as Ned Tugent)
"What the hell are you smoking? The ONLY thing Shrub has in common with Batman is that they both wear tights. Oh, and that Shrub used to make James Gannon wear a Robin costume."

9. Once again the Repuke idiots kidnap morals they never have had.
Oh yeah and morality covers all that shit you idiot. Values is a cheap word Repukes came up with during Repuke Raygun's theft of the country, er, administration. :eyes:

How quickly we forget the Contract on America. You remember Newt, the guy that divorced his 3rd wife on her deathbed while playing around with a government staffer.
