Senate Republicans Deliver Sharp Criticism of Gonzales
Check THIS out!

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/03/08/AR2007030801087.html

Senior Senate Republicans today delivered scathing criticism of Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales for his handling of the firing of eight U.S. attorneys, joining Democrats in charging that the prosecutors were dismissed without adequate explanation.

Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.), the top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, suggested that Gonzales's status as the nation's leading law enforcement officer might not last through the remainder of President Bush's term, pointedly disputing the attorney general's public rationale for the mass firings.

"One day there will be a new attorney general, maybe sooner rather than later," Specter said at a committee hearing where a new round of subpoenas to the Justice Department was considered.

Two of the Justice Department's most vocal defenders on the issue, Sens. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) and Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), also had sharp words for senior Justice Department officials who attacked the credibility of the prosecutors publicly by saying they performed poorly at their jobs.

All I can say is WOW! Gonzois in trouble when Spector, Kyle& Sessions start beating him up!

1. Specter always talks a good game, and then always caves when it acually counts.
I'm not going to get my hopes up.

5. Maybe, but he's got Kyle & Sessions with him this time! Can you even
IMAGIN...JEFF SESSIONS! Speaking against something associated with this admin?

My guess is if he's got those two Senators, he will also have quite a few more! I bet he gets a lot of bravery when he has the numbers on his side!

9. I'll wait and see if any concrete action actually arises out of this. If concrete action is taken,
THEN I'll get excited. Until then, talk is cheap.

11. Remember that it was Specter
who put the provision allowing DOJ to do this into the Patriot Act reauthorization.

2. Specter has sought photo ops before
I'm not believing ANYTHING that comes from his mouth. When he ACTS on his words -- then and ONLY then will I give him any kudos.

3. the question is: Are they grandstanding and posturing or WILL THEY ACT?
I take great hope from Spector saying "One day there will be a new attorney general, maybe sooner rather than later,"

7. Specter has the slime all over him.
He was the Senator that slipped the poisonous rider into the bill.

10. Why would they bother to fire Fitz now? He's already said
he considers this case inactive. If they were going to fire him, they should have done it over a year ago.

13. No, they wouldn't dare if they have any brain cells left. His stature
and profile are probably are much higher than most politicians.

And do you think he wouldn't be able to defend himself? Or that they think that? Hardly.
