surge update - Car Bomb Kills 12 in Baghdad

BAGHDAD — A parked car packed with explosives exploded in a Sunni neighborhood in northern Baghdad on Sunday, killing 12 people and wounding another 22, Iraqi authorities said.

The bomb detonated near a building of private health clinics in Adhamiya, a neighborhood that was once a stronghold for Sunni religious radicals. The perpetrators appear to have been trying to kill civilians, as there had been no police convoy or American patrol in the area at the time.
