Well, not in so many words, but apparently he's written HIS book..about his days in Cuba (he was a KID, for pete's sake)..but I digress...
ALL these pols who religiously write their "autobiographies" with loving care paid to all the early-life details (McCain has done it numerous times) are ASKING us to embrace their past, and to lap it up, so we can see how they became the people they are today..
If they did not want us to pay close attention to their early years, they would not spend 3/4 of their books , writing about it..
They KNOW that their early life SHAPES their lives into what they become, later in life.
McCain's early life was of privilege..being son of admiral, grandson of admiral..not being flunked out of the academy..living the freewheeling life of a naval officer (with his connections)..being a cheater/carouser/adulterer...and then being a kept-man , with a bought and paid-for congressional seat..and on to the Keating escapade..
His self-proclaimed "maverick status" came only because he was ABLE to vote against his kind ,due to their majority, not out of any real courage on his part..
He's an opportunist, with very little real knowledge of much.. He basically flunked out of college (except for Daddy & Gramps connections), he spent 6 years as a POW, and then became a kept man with staffers doing the research & real work.. He's a bloviator with only words written by others, spoken by him..
Mel was right.. the past is important..
Yes.. let's embrace Mccain's past:)
