ALERT: NEW ORLEANS AND NORTH GULF REGION
The 5:00 PM (2100Z) forecast is now available from the National Hurricane Center.

The 4-5 potential track has now aligned with the Katrina track. Preparations should now be made for the possibility of Gustav making landfall as a major hurricane (Cat. 3-5) by mid-next week (Wednesday). If you have your own transportation, start planning your evacuation route. If you have room to take additional people extend the invitation to do so. Remember, pets are part of the evacuation.

Please monitor the NHC's web site at http://www.nhc.noaa.gov

5. You know, I used to love September...
...but then I moved to the Gulf Coast.

Autumn was time that in my childhood meant cooling temps, shortening days, football games, the state fair, falling leaves, all sorts of good stuff.

Nowadays, it just means dread.

the warm spot in the gulf.

I'm also really glad I got to see NOLA in July. Please stay safe, DUers in Gustav's path!

I never understood why people down here wait until the last minute to prepare.

22. The people in the path had better get their act together and protect themselves
The Lord helps those who take a big helping for themselves, or something like that.

15. There goes the trip I planned to NOLA late next week.
I haven't been since Katrina. Not that my personal inconvenience is any big deal, I more fear New Orleans is going to get smacked again. Didn't I hear that the rebuilding of the levees is way behind or screwed up or something?

19. The levees are going to fail. A news report says one of the levees was patched with NEWSPAPERS.

18. Start getting out of there now, not in two days, not in 24 hours -- now.
We have seen this movie before and wanted to leave after the first five minutes.

20. Thank you for this post Aviation Pro.
Yes, everybody within the 5 day cone needs to have either a plan of evacuation or a plan to seek shelter. Everybody within the 3 day cone needs to be prepared. If you're staying at home, don't. But if you stay at home anyway, buy food and water now, today. If you read this, stop reading and go to the store. Do not wait until the last minute because there won't be anything there. Fill up your gas tank and use as little as possible after. Get money out because when the power goes out, those little plastic cards aren't going to be worth shit.

If you've got crap lying in your yard, please clean it up. Those are potential missiles that will either fly into your own home or someone else and could potentially kill somebody.

Make sure your affairs are in order. The title to your car and house, make sure those are not left behind to be destroyed. If you have pets, do not leave them in your house if you're leaving, take them with you.

Just be prepared for the absolute wosrt to happen.
