5. Response to a Hillary Acad voting for McCain
My dear friend,

I will not mention McCain's REAL Vietnam POW experience for reasons I previously discussed. Anyway, it's irrelevant. The problem is that the Navy gave him rank of Captain and would not qualify him for Admiralty because it deemed him not qualified to lead. So he decided to bypass the Joint Chiefs to become Commander and Chief. On the way, he did everything as a politician he had done as a sailor and flier always covering himself with his dad's name.

Now he is a dying Stage 3, not 2, melanoma victim-- for which I of course have empathy. But he lies and covers up with his POW experience as his magic cover for everything. He has no policies and his "team" is all scumbags like him, like Bush.

McCain went to Sen. Dashile in 2004 and asked if he could be considered for the VP spot if he switches party. Obviously, this and a lot more Dems are saving for a grand finale to the campaign. But with his top economic adviser calling us a "nation of whiners" and his top foreign policy adviser payed by Saakashvili and assuring him that if he attacks Russia the US will back him....remember McCain's "today we are all Georgians"?

When a hollow headed bum-- like Bush-- is also a gaga hollow head, as McCain, it kind of shows. Obama, at least, is a member of my son's generation, the generation we-- the "me" generation-- screwed things up for and that must bear the consequences. So Obama for me is a break with the past, a break with killing and disabling most of the moms and dads that on patriotic impulse joined up after 9/11 only to be used to try and steal Iraqi oil instead of going after bin Laden.

As a life-long Republican who watched the Roves of my party grow up pear-shaped on ill gotten gains, I can tell you that Frank's book THE WRECKING CREW has them right. McCain is not one of them only because he's a me-ist and not a team player who does as told by them. Yet, Bush baited him away from Kerry as you would bribe a dog in heat with an illusory whiff.

McCain is as dead as Bernie in "Weekend at Bernie's." The real issue is who are the "entrepreneurial" criminals behind him?

If you vote Republican, as in 2004 you must bear historical responsibility for it. The fact that the Reps are making it a race race by bringing up crap that no one would normally take seriously as real issues but will accept it as cover for the racial issue of "I don't want a NIGGER in the WHITE House"-- something I heard thousands of times from Dems and Reps-- then our generation deserves what it gets....My kids will leave and continue my family's long refugee trail to what my dad called the "Paradise of Freedom." Alas, it will be back in the other direction.

Ask yourself before you decide, dear friend, do you want to take America from those youths who unquestionably serve at peril of harm and give it to the "entrepreneurs" (French for the non-productive takers in-between) who stay home and steal everything so the surviving heroic and dedicated moms and dads come back to an empty nest?

I have come to despise my co-generational American boomers for their "ain't my kid going to Iraq" disconnect syndrome. I can't feel myself a part of their America-- neither when "hippie" in the sixties or "boomer" now. And that's why, whatever the risk, I'm betting all my marbles on Obama. At least in doing so I stand with all my children, the ones who must suffer the America I failed to make as good for as my parents made it for me.

Still, it's a hard choice and, given whom I stood for in 2000, I guess I have no right to talk. Still, I never took the money with which they would have had me taint honest open hearted academics like you, so I guess I did something right.

I can tell you that if the Betina Aptheker call at UC Berkeley for "meaningful dialogue" and the teach-ins had not died, we would not be in this mess today with such dubious choices...Still, having come in contact with him for decade, "hitting" McCain is the one thing about which I have no qualms.

BUT I AM-- TO MY DEATH-- OPEN TO DIALOGUE AND READY TO CORRECT MY ERRORS!

Be well, be safe and at least make the past truth history, unlike the present. I really appreciate your kindness in responding. I hope we keep in touch.

my best

Daniel
