Rage Against the Machine draws 9,000 in Denver
6 hours ago

DENVER (AP) — An anti-war concert headlined by the reunited Rage Against the Machine drew thousands of fans to the Denver Coliseum, many with tattoos, body piercings or "Iraq Veterans Against the War" T-shirts.

The mood was both laid-back and political as the show got under way Wednesday morning. A juggler performed on the sidewalk near a replica of a Guantanamo Bay prison cell.

The band State Radio opened while activists met backstage to plan a march once the show is over.

By the time Rage Against Machine took the stage, police estimated the crowd at 9,000.

When the concert concludes, Iraq war veterans and other protesters plan to march about four miles from the coliseum to the Pepsi Center, where the Democratic National Convention is being staged.

Protest organizers urged anyone participating in the march and willing to be arrested during a sit-in at the convention site walk at the front of the line.

Organizers said it would be an act of civil disobedience, not a violent protest. Protesters have been told not to react to the police presence or risk getting hit with pepper spray.

About 8,000 free tickets were handed out by lottery for the show, sponsored by Tent State University and Iraq Veterans Against the War.

Rage Against the Machine also plans a concert Sept. 3 in Minneapolis during the Republican National Convention, which takes place just across the Mississippi river in St. Paul.

13. Nobody plays Guitar like Tom Morello
Tom has the extraordinary ability to cull the greatest guitar themes/licks/chops, literally the classic guitar cliches, and make them come alive, with amazing power and impact ...

Songs like 'Testify', which is based on a gutty but smooth blues riff, are propelled by an energy that is otherwordly, but so natural ....

Really .. That man is brilliant ...

And we haven't even discussed Zach's brilliance ...

RATM can be a bit strong for the average 'classic rock' aficionado, but they do draw from classic rock themes, hardening them, and topping it with a tough, politically powerful rap that even those who dislike rap can at least digest and understand ...

RATM talks to me ...

14. 'Testify'
An important note: RATM takes a harsh approach to BOTH parties, and believe them to be two mouths of the same head ..... Many in DU believe that as well .... I do not agree completely, instead accepting that the best of the worst is as good as we can expect for the moment, but I understand the reasoning, and cannot refute the similarities between 'some' Democrats and 'most' republicans ...

The associations are a tad overblown .... but they deserve notice, and show that Democrats REALLY MUST live up to their calling and STOP trying to act like repukes ....

19. Dumbfucks. Are they gonna play RNC? No. They played DNC in 2000, protested Gore, and
wrote a lyric about how Gore sucked, promoting cynicism toward the Democrats at the moment of tipping point into the Bush Nightmare.

I own all their CDs, and I'm done with all of rock and roll. There isn't a single fucking band at all that has any political integrity whatsoever.
