Alaskans also bristle at the suggestion that Palin might not have enough experience with international issues.
What, they argue, could be more important internationally than fisheries or oil, the state's predominant economic issues?
And then there is the geography.
"We are staring at Russia every day," said Joy Ng, who has been married to Ng for 35 years.

"It's a real embarrassment," said River Bean, an organic farmer who works 20 acres outside of Anchorage.
"Can you imagine having the mayor of Wasilla as the vice president?"
Wasilla, the small town a little less than an hour's drive from Anchorage where Palin became mayor and rose to political power, is
considered by some to be, as Bean put it, "as ugly as sin."
Still, she is an Alaskan. So some of her staunchest critics hope she does not crumble under the pressure of the presidential race for fear it will reflect badly on the state.
Then again, there is the Alaskan approach.
"I don't care what the image of Alaska is to anyone else," said resident Sharon Rooth. "If I cared what America thought, I'd live there." more...
