During a Y-102 radio promotion in August, Dave Gross drank the equivalent of nearly eight 24-ounce bottles of water. He won the prize, along with an unwanted bonus — water intoxication — the same ailment that took the life of a woman participating in a similar radio contest last week in Sacramento.
As a result he spent a day in the hospital and missed two weeks of work after consuming almost a gallon and a half of water.
“It sounded like fun at first. Now that I look back and know the facts about it, it was stupid,” the Victorville resident said. “They build it as a bladder-buster contest. It becomes a blow-your-stomach-up contest.”
Gross said after the contest it took all he had to make it to the parking lot before throwing up. During his drive home his symptoms became worse, including a headache and blurred vision.
BTW, Clear Channel Station and they won't return his calls. He says that pool table cost him dearly in medical bills and lost wages.
