As is already got extra CANNED goods and made sure gas tanks are full

17. There you go.... when I was a kid in Mexico... I remember the
panicked look in my parent's face, first with the Echeverria crisis... then Lopes Portillo and so it goes

I remember the old things... FILL gas tanks, get canned goods... and be ready to live off them for a while

It never came to the canned goods... but just in case... got canned goods... Hey, if they don't get used this way, they'll get used anyway... but this does not strike me as a good thing

Of course my hubby thinks my tinfoil is going off a little too much... but like most Muricans has never lived through these kinds of shocking events in the flesh... now for people who went through the depression this must be VERY scary

You need to keep at least a weeks food and water or a filtration system.

You can see your disaster coming from a long way off but having been through both I'll take the earthquakes. They are quick!

but it is not the same

Somehow it is different..... when you know the decisions taken by a few people can royally screw you

Today I was talking to my mom... funny, she does not remember asking people if they filled gas tank or getting canned goods

I do...she does not not

and yes, civil war... it is called the war on drugs...

Or interviewing way too many refugees from central america

These were popular during the Great Depression. People couldn't afford a real chicken dinner, so they would buy a 1-cent candy bar because it gave them the fantasy of real food. Scary stuff, huh?

But in my worst tinfoil hat moments I try to reassure myself with the thought that this administration is so stupid, so unable to plan effectively that I don't think they could handle the job without screwing it up. They just don't have the ability to declare a fascist takeover without accidentally emailing the whole plan to reporters.

Then again an Army Times article about stationing an active duty army brigade in the US could be that "email". Crap, now I'm worried again...

44. Bush's only exertions as President have been attending photo-ops and campaigning
and having a 6 page PDB reduced to one page and read to him by a flunky over his morning cereal. If through some great misfortune our democracy were suspended, Bush wouldn't have to do anything all day except play with toy soldiers in his sand box, ride his bike, and enjoy his peanut butter sandwich before his afternoon nap on "pillie".

I would be overjoyed to be wrong about this. That's unlikely though. I predicted that we'd have an economic meltdown around this time (of the retirement of the baby boomers) in my book I wrote in 1996. Hyperinflation is coming. Chaos and martial law are coming. Get prepared. And if I'm wrong, nobody will be happier than me.

There's a slim chance they may be delayed but they'll have them.

Americans want & need their "elections"

"Elections" are an important part of distracting and pacifying the American public.

If the elections are cancelled Americans will feel cheated out of their precious democracy. If elections are held, even if they're a sham, people will be happy.

Just look at how giddy people were to choose between two Skull & Bonesmen back in 2004.

61. I tell you I don't see this happening
Most local officials would go ahead and run the elections. Many secretaries of state and governors would do so also. Bush would then be in the position of demanding the FBI and other available troops actually go to election precincts and stop the voting. I'm not sure his present FBI director, Robert Mueller, would agree to this. He may have the fantasy of hanging on through the next administration. Then there's the question of whether the Pentagon would accept Bush's order in view of the legal fiction of posse comitatus.

I just don't see the election being suspended. It would be a political impossibility. Can you imagine how often Lincoln's 1864 election and FDR's 1944 election would be brought up?

65. NO! There is absolutely NO evidence of ANY kind WHATSOEVER that ANYTHING of the sort is in the works
at least for the forseeable future.

Now an economic meltdown that could conceivably lead to a depression is well within the range of possibility though. It would be fair to say that if that should happen - any number of major events then becomes within the range of possibility.

This economic meltdown is NOT some big conspiracy. THAT'S LUDICROUS!!

This meltdown is the very logical consequences of decades of rabid speculation financed by even more rabid lending and borrowing.

It would take the cooperation of each of the 50 states.

This is the genuius of the Founding Fathers who wrote the Constitution. We are protected from this. The states hold the election and the electors meet. Nothing Chimpy can do about it.
