Would it make sense to require politians to serve out their current term before running for another political position? Meaning, before a senator or a governor can run for, say, president, their term as gov or senator has to be completed?

This obviously wouldn't apply to running for re-election for the SAME position.

This whole screw-up with the "bailout" and McCain's suspension of his campaign for "the good of the country" vs. "evil" Obama's self-centered continuation really has me bothered. I'm afraid that just maybe the American public will buy it. (My dad has totally bought into it, I'm afraid).

Maybe it really isn't right for someone who has been elected to do one job, to spend a significant portion of their time working to get another job.

I dunno...it's just something I've been pondering since talking to my dad this afternoon. It really bothers me that he thinks less of Obama now (and more of McCain, ugh).

1. that really isn't the way it works in the real world..
We are taught to multitask....tell your dad that McCain can't walk and chew gum at the same time. The country needs a debate now more than ever..and it really just boils down to McChicken not wanting to debate

2. I made all those arguments you mentioned.
So I hope that I at least planted a seed, we'll see what happens.

But, I've been pondering this issue all this evening, and of course it applies to both McCain and Obama, they were both elected to be senators, but really the facts are that they have missed a lot of senate business (McCain more than Obama, actually) because of their campaigns. Part of me does actually question if that is fair to the voters who voted for them. (Same goes for Hillary and all the others).

I'm not trying to start an argument, I'm conflicted over the issue.
