Which Group of Republicans are Lying to Us?
Edited on Fri Sep-26-08 07:54 AM by louis c
Maybe both.

Here's the scenario. The Bush Administration, in the person of Hank Paulson, Ben Bernanke and the President himself., are telling us that a financial Armageddon is developing before our eyes. If we don't act immediately, life as we know it, could end.

The Conservative Republicans in the House say that there is no rush. We don't need to act, and are turning their collective backs on the President, the Vice-president and the entire Administration.

Here we are, Democrats, who have had no control over the enforcement mechanism of Government for 8 years, and no control of the government at all for 6 of the last 8 years. Why should we get in the middle of this dispute? Tell them to figure it out between them, and get back to us.

You guys screwed this up, you figure out the scenario, and we'll see if we like it.

My advice to Dodd and Frank, Walk away.

1. How can we fix the problem if we don't investigate the reasons...
and the people who led us into the spot we are in now. Not a word about looking for the root causes of the problem, or about making any of the CEOs who got away with grand theft paying back anything that they have taken.

All the GOP hold-out "Obstructionists" have to offer, is more of the same crap that led us into this "Crisis"...More trickle down misery for the working class...more perks for the rich.

2. Wouldn't like to say
but if regulation is increased, as it should be, to coincide with the bailout then a whole lot more shit is going come to the surface from companies with overvalues assets on their balance sheets. So - the bailout is likely to provide no more than temporary dilution of the problem its supposed to solve. Give it another 6 months or so and then the shit really could hit the fan.

3. Two winos fighting
You have a point. When two winos are having a knife fight over a bottle, it's no time to walk in and try to talk sense to them.

I only hope that the public can see the two dysfunctional alcoholics for what they are -- losers. If there was anything that illustrated the need for a calm, sober leader, it is these two factions warring with each other.

4. Well, we KNOW the administration is lying.
Besides that they're lips are moving, they came up with this plan two months ago. If everything was so dire, why not speak up then? The timing is what is ridiculous. With the session about to close and the pols eager to start campaigning, they spring this on them? Sounds suspicious to say the least.

The reason WE will take a political hit, is because the Dems have control of Congress. You and I know it's not that simple, the Senate is slim and the House has Blue Dogs, but all the public hears is "Democratic controlled Congress couldn't pass a bill".

I agree with your advice, Dodd and Frank need to walk and let the chips fall where they will. Do not take the bait that particular version of the bill is.

I think the Dems should stay out of this, Pelosi is someone to watch out for also, she is pushing for a solution to this. We need both parties to be in on this.
