McCain Wins Debate

By Chris Cillizza | September 26, 2008; 10:40 AM ET

Although the fate of tonight's presidential debate in Mississippi remains very much up in the air, John McCain has apparently already won it -- if you believe an Internet ad an astute reader spotted next to this piece in the online edition of the Wall Street Journal this morning.

"McCain Wins Debate!" declares the ad which features a headshot of a smiling McCain with an American flag background. Another ad spotted by our eagle-eyed observer featured a quote from McCain campaign manager Rick Davis declaring: "McCain won the debate-- hands down."

He has the screenshot but I can't paste it since it prints the whole page.

He planned on debating all along, even has ads placed in WSJ already.

18. It's an ad, not an editorial
Methinks you didn't read the story properly. Online ads are rarely vetted in advance by editors.

5. It's like the Special Olympics - He wins just by showing up.
No offense intended toward those with special needs, but we require someone in the presidency who can do more than just show up and claim to have won a "moral victory".

20. Ever notice how the slogans are similar to the Xtian throwaway "Jesus is lord" ?
When you believe in anything, you will fall for everything. If their information isn't put into sound bites, it doesn't breach their psychological barrier.

25. Oh, come on. It was an ad.
One of those random pop-ups, like the "Biden or Palin?" things I'm seeing on DU as I type. Doesn't mean this is ceasing to become a Democratic site.
