A $640 billion dollar Defense Budget?
The Congress approved it in a wink of an eye. This is almost the same amount being asked for the bailout. What does this say about our Congress and our government? How can we trust them to save our financial system when they are so out of touch on our military spending?? Our nation's priorities are all twisted and distorted and our leaders don't even recognize the reality of their deeds. Can we ever expect to recover as a nation if we don't cut back on this gluttonous pig of a Defense budget?

1. Maybe Bush & congress can beg the Pentagon for a loan.
It's amazing how "bipartisan" congress gets when it's the Pentagon getting paid off.

3. Hey, c'mon now.
At least they had a dollar figure in there. In the future, they will just pass a bill with a "$__________________________" and just let the DOD fill in whatever amount they want.

I wonder if they arrived at that $640B figure the same way they calculated the $700B for the bailout. The just picked a "really large number."

The defense budget is one sacred cow that needs tipping.

4. Add CIA, NSA, spy satellites etc., it's well over $1 trillion
That's why I laugh whenever I hear there is a budget, fiscal or federal debt problem.

Cut defense spending by 80%. Problem solved.
