To my fellow DU'ers who came of age in the disco era...
Yes, we get a lot of crap for the vacuous, empty-headed disco culture of easy dance floor drugs and casual sex, but this is the final insult:

If I see "Funkytown" being used on my television one more time to push nuclear energy I'm gonna blow! And not coke!

1. People make fun of you guys and all, but...
when my wife and I got hitched (both born in the late 70s), guess what the band played at our reception? (Hint: It wasn't grunge or indie rock, and it rhymes with "bisco.")

Disco may be totally frivolous (Yes, it is.), but that doesn't mean it should be totally discarded. To this day, it's some of the most get-out-on-the-floor-and-dance-like-no-one's-watching music ever produced.

2. talk 'bout it! talk about it!
such a nice company too. All so some 20 somethings can prepare for a night of hot sex by dancing in a well lit living room.

nukes and mining operations are so clean and easy.

:sarcasm:

11. I cringe at that commerical
and the subliminal "we talk about it, talk about it..." while they're showing nuclear plants moving smoothly into our lives. They don't want to talk about it, they want to shove down our throats.

But they tell us: Nuclear energy makes us happy and then we dance.

'cuz and we "talk about it, talk about it.." and, as the song says, we've "gotta move on, gotta move on, gotta move on..." and, no doubt, happily greet nuclear energy into our lives.

7. LOL, Neecy - I came of age in that era but I preferred
the dawn-of-punk/alternative scene in Athens Ga around that time. I  everytime that ad comes on reminding me of rude lyrics a friend of mine sang along with "Funkytown".

9. I remember the dawn-of-punk
I like the scene, too. I spent a lot of time at the Roxy in Los Angeles and saw some really historic punk bands.

Disco drugs were better, though ;)

8. Disco still sucks -
but Saturday Night Fever holds up really well.

I rewatched it about a year ago ( looking for a laugh ) and it's actually a pretty good movie.

18. And Donna Summer, until she found Jesus and turned on the gay community
who were the biggest fans of her disco-singing ass. At least she later apologized. Sort of. After her record sales dropped like Wall Street.
