I'm increasingly convinced that Ms. Miers is headed for prison (Hopefully 1st Of Many)
As it turned out, the Republican base had the same suspicions and promptly sank Miers' chances of being confirmed to the lifetime position. And that's a good thing, because I'm increasingly convinced that Ms. Miers is headed for prison. http://thinkprogress.org/2008/10/03/miers-doj-investigators/ If Bush had had his way, we'd probably be thinking about impeaching a sitting Supreme Court justice, which would be a sorry spectacle both here at home, and around the world.

Harriet Miers appears to be at the very heart of the scandal surrounding the politicization of the Department of Justice, and the inappropriate firing of U.S. attorneys for political reasons. Ms. Miers defined a congressional subpoena and refused to cooperate with the DOJ's Inspector General investigation. She'd already be in prison for those actions if the Justice Department had not refused to do their job. Under an Obama administration, there is no doubt that Miers will be forced to cooperate with Congress, and she'll face the choice of telling the truth or taking the fifth. Her actions so far heavily suggest that old saying that where there is smoke there is fire. I don't think there is any doubt that the truth will land Ms. Miers in legal trouble.

2. Isn't she the one who cleaned out The Kid's military file?
It sits on the back of my mind that she was the one Poppa asked to physically clean any damaging pages out before he ran for gov.

But then, I've been wrong before.

3. It was my clear impression in listening to Conyer's Hearing ...
That Conyers was setting up the groundwork to send people before the court after the next Administration is in power and there is no chance of Pardon.

7. But couldn't Bush pre-emptively Pardon Miers, et al prior to indictment?
That's what Ford did to Nixon, and I believe some of GHWB's end of term pardons were pre-indictment (Wienberger?).

8. I hope you are right.
I've seen a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth at DU about Conyers' approach. If you are right and there's vindication post-election, that will be fun. :)

11. No one from the Bush administration will ever go to jail
not as long as Mr. Bush has his magic pardon pen handy...just wait until January - the list of pardons will be long - and complete.
