RNC to seek audit of all contributions to Obama campaign
Posted: 04:19 PM ET

From From CNN Associate Producer Martina Stewart

(CNN) – The fund-raising prowess of the Obama campaign may be put under a microscope, if the Republican National Committee has its way.

The RNC announced that it plans to file a complaint with the Federal Election Committee Monday that seeks an audit of the more than $450 million donated so far to Sen. Barack Obama’s presidential campaign.

The complaint will address two issues highlighted in a recent Newsweek report about the Obama campaign’s fund-raising. First, the RNC will ask the federal agency responsible for enforcing campaign finance laws to audit and inquire into whether the Obama campaign accepted any money from foreign nationals, a contribution source prohibited under federal law.

“We believe that, based on the law, the Obama campaign has accepted contributions from foreign nationals and has knowingly done so through at least its failure to reasonably investigate where all this money is coming from,” RNC Chief Counsel Sean Cairncross told reporters Sunday.

2. They are going to dig through everything and anything just to
stir anything they can on Obama.

They will nit pick and if they don't find anything they can always make something up.

Hope they can work fast, that is a lot of donations to go through in 30 days.

7. Remember: The RNC accuses their opponents of exactly what THEY have committed.
RNC to seek audit of all contributions to Obama campaign, October 5, 2008

First, the RNC will ask the federal agency responsible for enforcing campaign finance laws to audit and inquire into whether the Obama campaign accepted any money from foreign nationals, a contribution source prohibited under federal law.

Second, the RNC plans to ask for an audit of possible excessive contributions to the Democratic nominee.

We've seen this movie countless times before.

It would have been nice to have had an Attorney General all these years. Not to mention a president, an opposition Congress and a moderate Supreme Court.

8. A visit with my brother:
When I evacuated to my brother's house in Texarkana for Hurricane Gustav, this is what he told me: He had been receiving literature from the National Rifle Association saying that overseas terrorists were financing the Obama campaign. When I went ballistic, told him about the hundreds of thousands of Americans who were willing to send small amounts to ensure change, he was still adamant. He said for me to "think about it," and to "use common sense." He said there is no way in hell for an African American to be able to raise that kind of money against the rich, white Republican Party/Republicans. That kind of money is coming from Arab terrorists who have a vested interest in electing Obama. I asked him if that makes Obama a terrorist too, but he said no, that Obama is just a tool for the terrorists. So, I asked him what would happen if Obama became President --- how would the terrorists influence his actions to their benefit? He said they would make sure Obama pulled the troops out of Iraq (well duh), leaving Iraq for the terrorists, who would then control the oil revenue there, and use the oil revenue to ramp up attacks against the US and its allies. Whereupon, I beat my head against the table repeatedly. Anyway, I have been waiting for this nonsense to "make the big time" and it seems that it has. Now I will have to receive emails from my idiot brother, crowing about what he told me was just common sense.

Make no mistake, this proposed "audit" is impossible to do in one month. This is merely an attempt to suggest that Obama's campaign receives a large part of their donations from outside the U.S. (gasp, Arab nations.) This is not an attempt to screw with Obama's contributions, it is an attempt to tell American that Obama is being financed by overseas TERRORISTS.

In the first place, the FEC rules allowed all the campaigns to collect donations up to $200 without verifying and posting name, info. So, just because Obama collected much more money from small donors, the RNC says something is wrong with that. From the WAPO:

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/10/05/rnc_to_file_fec_complaint_on_o.html?hpid=topnews

At the heart of the RNC complaint is a federal fundraising rule that lets campaigns accept donations under $200 without itemizing the names and addresses of the donors on its campaign finance reports. The rule was intended as a matter of practicality -- it did not seem reasonable to ask a campaign to gather that information from every five-dollar donor.

But the Obama campaign has raised more than $200 million this way, a staggering sum for donations that will not be subjected to outside scrutiny.

Obama campaign aides said today that a number of steps have been taken to safeguard against foreign or illegal contributions coming in in smaller increments. The measures include: requiring donors to present a passport at fundraising events held for Americans overseas, ending contributions to the Obama Store from contributors with addresses outside the U.S. or its territories, and requiring donors to enter a U.S. passport number when contributing via the Americans Abroad page.
------------

So don't focus on the money aspect, look at the once-again attempt to associate Obama with Muslims, Arabs, Terrorists. Scary Brown Muslim!
