22. "I was totally gonna vote for Obama when gas was $4/gallon
but now that it's closer to $3, I'm goin' with McCain."

If only I had a dollar every time I heard that.

29. In 2004 gas prices rose from early September to early November from $1.81 to $1.98 nationally.
It then declined to $1.75 after the election to the end of the year.

3. And that is with a supply shortage...
I would also call it a pre-election drop.

9. Are you people still disallowed from pumping your own gas?
I remember about 15 years ago being in NJ and not being allowed to pump my own gas. That probably adds a few cents on to the price.

11. Yep. And when you try to do that, they shoo you away with excuses of
insurance won't let them let you pump your own gas.

13. I dunno ..... NJ always seems to have the lowest prices in the Middle Atlantic.
Even with their no-pump laws.

21. It doesn't -- we have the cheapest gas
It's annoying when you have to wait for an attendant, but it's great in bad weather. Plus, my hands don't end up smelling like diesel.

24. That's one of the best things about moving to NJ
Not having to pump my own gas on those really rainy/really cold/etc. days -- and STILL ahve it be cheaper than VA!

28. Disallowed? No, sir, New Jersey and here in Oregon
we are given service by people who get paid to pump gas. In other States, we are forced to pump our own or pay premiums for service. Customers who benefit inculde anyone who does not wish to smell gas, plus, as I am sure you see, the disabled and elderly, pregnant women, and in heavy rain or wind or snow, everybody digs it.
Low skill jobs. Customer service. And guess what? Gas costs more the second I cross into CA and am again forced to do the job of the filling station staff. I pay more, and give them free labor.

6. Well, duh--there IS an election coming up.
Edited on Sun Oct-05-08 05:45 PM by rocknation
It's down to $3.06 around here (Newark NJ) and I expect to be around $2.50 by Nov. 4. Back in November '06, I won a bet because I was able to find a station that was selling it for LESS than two dollars!

8. I don't doubt it. There is an election coming up, you know.
On the other side of the coin, it does take some of the steam out of the "drill baby drill" crowd.

12. Already $2.89 in Springfield MO
and below $3 at the line. Still $3.39 in northern Arkansas, but the distributors here tend to rip off consumers.

14. This is for McPalin, to help in the election. I said long ago that it would $2.90
by Phony Election Day.

The Bushie Principles of Gestalt-Based Propoganda say (and I think correctly) that statistically, such a price drop will result in a "non-specific rush of good feelings" that will mean less votes against the status quo.

The "non-specific rush of good feelings" I am speaking of from the discounted gasoline will be akin to a heroine junkie taking a hit of discounted junk into their vein.

And yes, it happened in 2006, 2004, and 2002, complemetary to the Phony Price Jack-Ups in 2001 (enron) 2003 (Iraq Invasion) and 2005 (Katrina/Rita...good cover for Bushie Thieves THAT year)
